Position Title: Training Supervisor Assistant
Location: Transportation 3833 N. 72nd Street Omaha NE 68134
Reports to: Training Supervisor
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12-month/261 Days
Position Purpose: Under the direction of the Training Supervisor the Training Supervisor Assistant assists the Driver/Trainer Supervisor in the overall management of OPS Driver Training including but not limited to conducting driver training and orientation maintaining all pertinent driver and aide credentials assisting in the coordination of investigation and settlement of accidents.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Conduct training forbus drivers andbus aides: First Aid and CPR Federal Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) CDL License Aide Refresher and Wheelchair Training CDL Tester and Accident Refresher Training.
- Must meet the requirements to become a Level instructor to instruct drivers in accordance with the Nebraskaschool bus drivers training program. (Minimum requirements to qualify to take Level instructor coursework: Must have a minimum of three years of school bus driving experience in the state of Nebraska or within the past five years been an active school bus driver.)
- Serves as a resource for drivers regarding safe driving practices rules of the road state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to student transportation.
- Ensures that all drivers records and employment status are current and up to date in accordance with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures and Student Transportation.
- Maintains thorough working knowledge of all laws procedures and regulations governing school bus drivers and student transportation.
- Facilitates ride-a-longs and observes drivers to ensure that all safety rules and regulations are adhered to on a consistent basis.
- Serve as a substitutedriver for school bus routes as needed.
- Operates District buses during training and/or demonstrations.
- Fills out appropriate log(s) forms and paperwork as required.
- Completes all required reports on a timely basis.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students staff and parents.
- Responds to bus accidents as needed or is part of the accident response team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be prepared to work some weekends.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and other district administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position requires the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machines. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Travel within and outside of the Omaha Metro area may be required.

Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to complete day-to-day tasks.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- For schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Must hold a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements (P & S) and Drivers License in good standing.
- Must have a minimum of three years of school bus driving experience in the state of Nebraska or within the past five years be an active school bus driver in order to be a Level instructor.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare staff for obtaining CDL Drivers License including being knowledgeable of driver testing andthe criteria needed to obtain a license.
- Minimum of three to five years of experience in CDL driving.
- Experience and knowledge in training adult learners.
- Knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Familiarity with all written CDL testing requirements including the walk-around process.
- Ability to demonstrate and operate wheelchair tie-downs car seats and harness installation.
- Successful completion of pre-employment functional capacity evaluation and theUnited States Department of Transportation required physical & drug/alcohol screening.
- Successful completion of the Student Transportation Bus Driver Training Program including -NE DMV - Commercial Drivers License (CDL);NE DMV School Bus Drivers Permit andFirst Aid/CPR training.
- Evidence of understanding and willingness to comply with the practices and procedures cited in the Handbook for Transportation Employees.
- Demonstrated ability to display effective organization and general office skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office 365 including Word and Excel and ability to prepare multi-media training presentations to groups.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth.
- Meets regular and predictable attendance requirements.
- Must maintain a safe driving record.
- Must meet OPS insurability requirements.
- Sensitivity and ability to interact with students co-workers teachers administrators other staff and parents of other cultures and backgrounds.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
