We are dedicated to youth development healthy living and social responsibility. Our Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program provides children with a high-quality educational foundation in a fast-paced supportive environment. Position Overview: We are currently seeking a passionate and dependable UPK Teacher Assistant to join our dynamic team. This is a ten-month part-time seasonal position that follows the local school district calendar. The role supports the lead teacher in maintaining a structured safe and nurturing classroom environment for preschool-aged children. Each classroom is licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and includes 21 students 1 state-certified lead teacher and 2 assistant teachers. Key Responsibilities: - Assist the lead UPK teacher with implementing daily academic and enrichment activities.
- Support classroom management and maintain compliance with OCFS ratio and safety regulations.
- Supervise students during transitions playtime meals and rest periods.
- Promote YMCA core values: Respect Responsibility Caring and Honesty.
- Maintain a clean organized and child-friendly classroom environment.
- Communicate positively with students parents and team members.
- Follow all YMCA and OCFS guidelines including emergency and health procedures.
Qualifications: - Must be at least 18 years of age
- One of the following is preferred:
- CDA (Child Development Associate)
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Actively pursuing a degree in Early Childhood or related field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience working with young children in a structured setting preferred
- Must be reliable team-oriented and passionate about working with children
Additional Details: - This is a part-time position; PTO is not accrued but sick time is earned.
- The program follows the school district calendarwhen schools are closed the UPK program is not in session.
- Part-time staff may have opportunities to work in other YMCA programs or vacation camps during school closures.
