What is the Opportunity

As the Director of Canadian Tax Operations you will drive RBCs Canadian Tax Operations strategy for Wealth Management clients. You will be responsible for overseeing Canadian tax reporting to ensure RBC complies with all relevant requirements under the Income Tax Act and other regulations governed by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Revenu Qubec and other tax authorities.

You will lead a department accountable for annual tax slip production and reporting for 2MM clients implementing new tax regulations and ensuring continued compliance with evolving legislation. You will provide oversight coaching and strategic direction to a team of experienced managers collaborate cross-functionally across business lines and represent RBC at industry associations and regulatory forums.

The position requires advanced knowledge of tax law and its operational impacts strong leadership to manage and develop high-performing teams and the ability to drive transformation across systems processes and controls.

With extensive exposure to internal and external stakeholders this position offers an opportunity to shape the future of RBCs tax operations model while maintaining a client- and risk-focused culture.

What will you do

  • Lead the full cycle of Canadian tax reporting operations including oversight of T3 T4 T5 T5008 NR4 and RL slips production filing and delivery to clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to ensure operational readiness for new tax regulations and system implementations.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and senior liaison for tax matters with regulators (CRA Revenu Qubec) auditors industry peers and key internal stakeholders.
  • Direct and support tax operations managers in managing day-to-day tax processes exception handling reconciliations and reporting cycles.
  • Oversee the design documentation and improvement of internal controls ensuring they meet compliance audit and enterprise risk standards.
  • Champion client experience by ensuring timely and accurate tax slip production and handling of tax-related inquiries from advisors and clients.
  • Lead cross-functional and enterprise-wide initiatives related to tax compliance technology upgrades and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure staff development through coaching knowledge sharing succession planning and performance management.
  • Monitor departmental metrics analyze data trends and report on operational effectiveness and risk indicators.
  • Support business continuity operational resilience and regulatory examinations involving tax operations.
  • Influence policy process and system enhancements by collaborating with business technology compliance and risk partners.
  • Proactively identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure ongoing compliance with tax laws and industry standards.
  • Represent RBC at Industry Associations and Regulatory forums.

What must you have to succeed

Must-haves:

  • 7 years of experience in financial services operations tax reporting or regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax rules including CRA and Revenu Qubec reporting requirements.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex operational functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change drive process improvements and mitigate risk.
  • Experience working in a complex matrix environment and proactively managing a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience

Nice-to-have:

  • Solid understanding of Wealth Management services and processes. Previous experience in Operations an asset
  • Degree in Business Finance Accounting or a related field.
  • Canadian Securities license.
  • Knowledge of audit compliance or tax risk management in a brokerage or wealth management environment.
  • Knowledge of Broadridge Operations Systems
