About the role:
Head of Department Immunopathology
- Provides strategic and operational leadership for Immunopathology and to be responsible forensuring the provision of high quality safe and effective services.
- Implements the strategic direction of the Department consistent with that of SydPath.
- Promotes clinical standards and clinical governance accountabilities for medical staff within thedepartment as an integrated part of the multidisciplinary team actively leading the implementing systemsfor clinical measurement benchmarking and continuous improvement.
- Creates and leads a culture that attracts trains retains and empowers high calibre medical and other staff within the department/ service.
- Organises and coordinates senior and junior medical staff within the Department for the provision ofsafe effective and efficient service delivery training research and Department accreditation.
- Effectively acts to manage risks including psychosocial hazards in line with the organisationsgovernance frameworks industry standards and legislation; actively creating and building a workplace culture that values respectful interactions open communication and collaborative problem solving.
- Develops strategies to effectively manage work flow and implementation of evidence-based practicesand sustainable management of services.
- Directly participate in the reporting of Sydpath Immunopathology incorporating HIV diagnostics and flow cytometry services
- Represent Immunopathology at meetings discussions and committees overseeing the overall developmentand management of Sydpath
- Functions as a senior leader providing high quality leadership management and ongoing service development.

Selection Criteria:
- Full medical registration with AHPRA
- Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Have appropriate skill base and recency of practice in Immunopathology to report oversee and trouble-shoot the full diversity of testing undertaken at Sydpath which includes high complexity HIV testing flow cytometry in the diagnosis of haematological malignancies and testing for autoimmunity allergy immunodeficiency and immunochemistry.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage human resources including performance management.
- Demonstrated personal qualities of clinical leadership including clear communication of complex concepts to a variety of audiences problem solving time management motivation initiative negotiation and team building.

- Provision of clinical services to inpatients designated as under your direct care to outpatients and to
- patients you are asked to consult in Clinical Immunology;
- Provision of professional leadership training education and supervision to junior medical staff and other
- health care members within the department and to be an active contributor to the multidisciplinary patient
- care team;
- Participation in patient safety audit research and service planning activities;
- Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital;
- Participation in the Immunology and HIV on-call rosters for the HIV and Immunology Department
Selection Criteria:
- Possess specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the StaffSpecialists State Award having completed Advanced Training in Clinical Immunology.
- Have sufficient experience and recency of practice such as to allow immediate unsupervised practice.
- Have high level expertise in all aspects of all areas of Clinical Immunology including primary immunodeficiencyand HIV.
- Demonstrated knowledge skills and high standards of clinical practice in Clinical Immunology and Allergycommensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position;
- Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development dissemination and translation of new knowledge andpractices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge experience and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinicalservice innovation;
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary environment with excellent interpersonal andcommunications skills;
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar junior medical officer and undergraduate levels;
