6.5 hours per day (8:30 am - 3:30 pm) Regular days conference days and last day of school
3 hours per day (8:30 am - 11:30 am) Wednesdays

Start and end times are subject to variation based upon changing needs

Student attendance days only

(60 work days probation for new employees)

Rate of pay: $29.75 - $36.43

The job of Special Services Preschool Instructor is done for the purpose/s of under immediate supervision assisting building administrator or Director of Special Services in supervising the classroom and playground activities of children in Special Services; conveying and/or receiving information; maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment for the children; and ensuring compliance with established regulations.

This job reports to the Director of Special Services/Building Administrator

Essential Functions

Instruction student supervision and classroom management

  • Plans prepares and executes an enriching preschool program for students with disabilities with structured and unstructured activities based on best practices.
  • Teaches and promotes the practice of life skills (e.g. self-care serve nutritional snacks) and good habits to improve student outcomes and encouraging student development.
  • Coordinates assigned developmentally appropriate program activities (e.g. daily activities reading stories art painting playground activities etc.)
  • Maintains responsibility for assigned students in a variety of settings.
  • Maintains a well-managed classroom under the direction of the teacher ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitors children (e.g. naps lunch breakfast playground activities etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

Assessment and Recordkeeping

  • Assesses students and compiles student data to support necessary recordkeeping as defined in the IEP and assists in the evaluation of eligible students to meet mandated requirements.
  • Shares observations and incidents with appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  • Collaborates with Special Services staff in the implementation of the inclusion preschool model for identified students as needed.
  • Utilizes a variety of developmentally appropriate assistive technology and tools on a daily basis to meet IEP goals. Maintains classroom materials and equipment work area (e.g. adapting instructional materials cleaning work area taking attendance audio visual equipment etc.)

Professional development and communication

  • Shares information with parents school staff and supervisor including responding to inquiries from staff (e.g. administrators psychologists teachers) for the purpose of information and IEP implementation.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent meeting in-service training staff meetings etc.) for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving ones skills and knowledge.
  • Maintains confidentiality.

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and operating standard office equipment using pertinent software application.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand complex multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate activities and positive reinforcement.

Knowledge of the learning growth and developmental process for children and developmentally appropriate curriculum using an integrated approach of cognitive physical social and emotional modalities.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related

equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a variety of

circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment

using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of

individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. In working with others problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; fostering positive relationships; maintaining confidentiality; and working as part of a team.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. There is a

continual opportunity to have some impact on the organizations services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical

demands: significant lifting (approx 50 lbs) carrying pushing and/or pulling; frequent stooping kneeling

crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30%

sitting 30% walking and 40% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.

Experience: Job related experience preferred

Education: Minimum AA in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related area required; BA/BS in ECE Primary Elementary Education or job related education that meets organizations prerequisite requirements (ECE).
