Job Duties:
The position is needed to manage the increase in juvenile mental health cases and to handle cases from the newly created Juvenile Behavioral Health Court. We have not historically needed a juvenile mental health attorney in that geographical area because there were few enough cases that our CAP attorneys could cover them; however over the last several months the numbers have increased dramatically and the court has created a separate process for those who qualify for the behavioral/mental health court which routinely conflicts with CINC court making it impossible for our CAP attorneys to cover most of the hearings.
40% As a licensed attorney provides case consultations on child and adult mental health cases. Covers court hearings as needed particularly Calcasieu Juvenile mental and behavioral health cases and those cases in the surrounding parishes as needed.
25% Develops presentations and trainings on child mental health for attorneys judges court personnel and other stakeholders as requested.
25% Performs other administrative functions such as assisting with developing policy and procedures on child and adult mental health cases. Assists in recommending changes to the Louisiana Childrens Code as needed.
10% Performs research on childrens competency mental health laws behavioral health and Childrens Code issues. All other duties assigned.
