Schedule:40 hours per week flexible as needed (20 hrs/wk Shelter 20 hrs/wk BCP)

Job Summary

This is a shared position between CEDARS Pioneers Center Emergency Shelter (Pioneers Center) and CEDARS Basic Center Program (BCP).

Pioneers Center serves as the only short-term emergency shelter for kids (ages 12-18) who do not have immediate access to another safe living arrangement in southeast Nebraska. Kids may be referred to the Pioneers Center because of a history of abuse neglect or domestic violence; alternative to juvenile detention; interruption of a foster care placement; homelessness; hospitalization of a parent/guardian; or for short-term stabilization. To prevent youth from being placed outside the home CEDARS also offers the Basic Center Program (BCP) to families who are not involved in Child Welfare or the Juvenile Justice System. BCP is part of a continuum of supports and services available at CEDARS for youth at risk of housing instability and homelessness. BCP can provide the following: (a) in-home support to families in effort to prevent disruption or placement outside the home; (b) help reuniting young people with their families whenever possible; and/or (c) up to 21 days of shelter through Pioneers Center. In addition 90 days of aftercare is provided following discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and supervision of youth
  • Provided case management for BCP participants including intakes assessments and service plans
  • Complete daily documentation of youth in care
  • Build relationships with youth and provide support
  • Provide transportation to and from school appointments activities or visits
  • Engage youth in life skills educational activities and outings
  • Determine youths eligibility for BCP prior to program entry
  • Conduct in-home support with both youth and family members
  • Guide program participants through the process of applying economic benefits and accessing resources and other services as needed
  • Participate in on call rotation with Pioneers Center
  • School-based outreach
  • May also provide coverage at the Youth Opportunity Center and assist with moving and cleaning independent living apartments if needed

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age of older
  • Bachelors degree in human services social work or a closely related field
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals in the organization and the community
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and computer/data entry experience
  • Valid drivers license and a good driving record
