Position purpose:

Reporting to the Intermediate Publishing Specialist Business Operations assists the intermediate publishing specialist business operations with tasks related to preparing Centre de recherche sur les francophonies canadiennes publications. Handles manuscript preparation (applying style guide) layout and page make-up of publications using the appropriate computer tools and software and adhering to the priorities set by the intermediate publishing specialist business operations. Designs does page makeup and illustrates material for events and assists in a timely fashion with University communications.

The duties of the position will be performed in French only. The candidate must demonstrate an excellent command of the French language (spoken and written).

In this role your responsibilities will include:

  • Prepares manuscripts for layout: converts files from different environments; ensures that graphics are in formats fit for printing; if necessary requests that authors provide documents that meet printing criteria; and applies style guide.
  • Performs layout and page makeup using specialized techniques and desktop publishing software according to procedures in effect for each publication.
  • Applies language editors corrections and makes required changes after proofreading.
  • Designs produces and adapts material required for centre events (posters programs flyers etc.).

What you will bring:

  • College studies in computer graphics and desktop publishing or an equivalent combination of studies and relevant work experience
  • One years experience in similar work
  • Knowledge and experience regarding publishing and graphic design and the steps involved in producing a publication (printing layout editing and photography)
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems and software such as Windows word processors spreadsheets databases email the internet and desktop publishing software
  • Knowledge of writing style guides
  • Excellent French-language writing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to handle work requiring precision and attention to detail
  • Resourcefulness and independence
  • Bilingualism French and English (spoken and written) (The main language for this position is French.)
