Job Description
The City of Edmonton is looking for an Industrial Business Development Officer to join our Industrial Growth Hub team. This role reporting to the Industrial Growth Hub Program Manager will be one of the main points of contact for industrial investors either directly or indirectly through Edmonton Global. They will verify industrial investor requirements and develop formal proposals to encourage the industrial investor to locate in the City of position will be responsible for leading the development and implementing industrial investment attraction strategies co-created with team members in the Industrial Growth Hub and Edmonton Global. This position will serve as one of the Citys experts in industrial site selection industrial incentives industrial business development and industrial investment relationship management.

What will you do
- Offer a main point of contact for domestic and international industrial investors
- Act as one of the main City of Edmonton points of contact for Edmonton Global and investors providing dedicated attention facilitating investment opportunities and addressing any concerns or challenges that may arise
- Work in collaboration with Edmonton Global to share investment data on the City of Edmonton through direct requests or through formal proposals and provide and obtain feedback in an effort to increase industrial investment in Edmonton
- Conduct rigorous due diligence and feasibility assessments for each industrial investment opportunity and evaluate the financial viability economic impact risk factors and alignment with the Citys strategic objectives
- Guide industrial investors through the investment process coordinating site visits and facilitating meetings with relevant internal and external partners
- Provide guidance and support where needed to industrial investors in understanding and navigating complex policies and processes both in the City and across Edmonton economic ecosystem to facilitate smooth investment experience
- Maintain strategic relationships with domestic and international investors corporate decision-makers business associations and industry leaders
- Develop and maintain an understanding of the Citys relative competitive position with respect to investment attraction across each of Edmontons industrial target sectors
- Stay abreast of emerging economic trends potential investment opportunities and best practices in the field of industrial economic development
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the federal provincial and municipal investment attraction ecosystem
- Work closely with the Industrial Growth Hub marketing lead by providing information insights and guidance and leveraging their expertise to support marketing and industrial investment attraction activities
- Interact with internal and external partners to advance industrial growth hub and Industrial Investment Action Plan actions and projects. These internal and external partners may include the private sector public sector administration and industry organizations
- Provide regular reporting and analytics on industrial investment opportunities
- Represent Edmontons industrial sector at trade shows conferences speaking engagements professional networks and business missions to network with potential investors partners and customers
- Contribute to and develop management briefings reports and presentations on industrial economic metrics for various audiences

- A Bachelors degree in Commerce Economics Urban Planning Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience within municipal and/or private setting leading economic development investment attraction industrial land use planning and development and marketing
Skills required for success:
- Strong economic development knowledge covering a broad variety of topics including comprehensive understanding of industrial sectors municipal industrial growth competitive pressures issues and economic forecasts
- Detailed knowledge of policy development and their potential impact on land use land development and allocation of capital infrastructure investment
- Understands relevant municipal provincial and federal economic and environmental policies and strategies that impact industrial investment attraction
- Possesses advanced skills in building and maintaining strong relationships with industry partners economic development organisations and other levels of government
- Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to effectively convey information and ideas
- Possesses strong project management skills including change management performance measurement policy development business case development strategic and business planning and strong political acuity with the ability to plan execute and monitor projects effectively
- Demonstrates proven leadership ability with the capacity to initiate execute and oversee initiatives
- Possesses a strong focus on achieving results and delivering measurable outcomes
- Fully understanding the Citys role in economic development will be instrumental in contributing to the long-term economic prosperity of our city

Conditions of employment:
- The successful candidate will be required to provide their own vehicle for City use and where appropriate may be reimbursed according to City policy; this may require the successful applicant to obtain auto business use insurance
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent)
Work Environment:
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week
Salary Range: $51.171- $65.301 (Hourly); $90150.51 - $115044.04 (Annually)
Salary ranges are in the process of being updated in accordance with the recently ratified collective agreement between the City and CSU 52 and will be forthcoming shortly
