Job Description

Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Associate Director Services for Students with Disabilities the Accommodation Specialist determines eligibility for services and implements access to accommodations and services for students with disabilities. Assists students in understanding their rights and responsibilities relating to reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The Accommodation Specialist identifies and resolves highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. As a member of the division of Student Life works to advance student development and retention; promotes diversity inclusion and respect; and empowers students to thrive. This position is a three-city position serving the Stockton Sacramento and San Francisco campuses.

Essential Functions
Conducts intake meetings and consultations with prospective and current students to assess individual needs and determine appropriate reasonable accommodations. Maintains a comprehensive caseload of students across programs and campuses providing ongoing support throughout their academic journey. Regularly reviews and updates student profile in Accessible Information Management ( AIM ) software database to ensure continued access to accommodations and eligibility. Reviews medical psychological and technical evaluations of students abilities disabilities and requests for reasonable accommodations. Utilizes active listening skills and specialized knowledge to evaluate documentation understand student-reported barriers and recommend accommodations that provide equitable access to educational programs and activities. Determines eligibility for services and implements access to accommodations and services using AIM . Documents maintains and reviews current and accurate case records notes and related information in Accessible Information Management ( AIM ) software database and other student information systems applicable to the units workflow. Collaborates and consults with university offices including but not limited to the Office of the Dean of Students Residential Life and Housing Registrar academic units Student Health Services and Counseling and Psychological Services. In consultation with students faculty and other stakeholders develops plans to support access to courses programs facilities services and activities on campus adhering to all applicable university state and federal ADA policies procedures and protocol. Provides information referral and support to enrolled students with disabilities including identification of internal and external resources necessary for evaluation and accommodation. Coordinates communication between enrolled students with disabilities faculty and program staff and provides on-going consultation and technical assistance to faculty and staff to facilitate equal learning opportunities. Identifies and manages on-campus and off-campus resources necessary for academic accommodations as applicable and necessary (ex. note-takers interpreters audiobooks transcriptions and more). Consults with appropriate staff to recommend disability-related accommodations to Residential Life & Housing that ensures a students needs are met in on-campus housing. Manages textbook alternative formatting requests minor editing and delivery of materials/books to students. Acts as backup to the Testing Center Manager as needed by assisting with day-to-day operations of Stockton testing center including assisting students with scheduling coordination with academic programs and logistics to maintain a secure and supportive testing environment. Attends case management meetings with both the Office of the Dean of Students and other campus partners to resolve emergent problems involving at-risk students. Participates in providing on-going professional development for faculty staff student tutors and workers around disability issues. May participate in university committees task forces. Perform other duties as assigned. This position serves as Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported to them. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree required. Three (3) years experience working with persons with disabilities. Demonstrated working experience with ADA regulations and familiar with issues in education and student development. Current knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and ADA Compliance.

Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree and three years experience working with persons with disabilities in an educational setting. Credentialed or eligible for credentialing to serve persons with disabilities (e.g. Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Applied Behavioral Analysis etc.) Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive data. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present materials to students faculty staff and families. Strong organizational skills and the ability to function well autonomously. Ability to use technologies suitable for case management data tracking and reporting.
