JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Q Center Director the Educational Program Coordinator provides critical support in maintaining the Q Centers day-to-day operations. The Educational Program Coordinator is responsible for hiring tutors program assistants shift supervisors and receptionists and will assist in hiring Teaching Assistants (TAs). This position is also responsible for scheduling shifts supervising training evaluating and assigning work to the tutors program assistants receptionists and TAs. The Educational Program Coordinator also coordinates academic support efforts between the Q Centers across the UConn system as well as the Academic Achievement Center W Center and other units responsible for academic support and success at UConn.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee plan and implement Q Center services and activities. Supervises day-to-day Q Center activities. Monitors programs compliance with university policies and procedures. Monitors the processing of necessary paperwork and maintains program records participant data and facility use information.
- Recruits selects hires and supervises tutors in STEM subject areas including chemistry mathematics physics and statistics for both in-person and online tutoring. Facilitates orientation and training of tutors in areas of content pedagogy student engagement and inclusive engagement practices. Determines tutor schedules and assignments (in-person and online) to ensure effective delivery of academic support services in the Q Center. Assist with TA hiring and training.
- Recruits selects hires and supervises receptionists program assistants and shift supervisors. Coordinates orientation and training. Develops work schedules and assigns daily tasks to meet the needs of the Q Center.
- Coordinates and facilitates collaborative academic support events with other key academic support units at UConn including but not limited to the Academic Achievement Center W Center First Year Programs Learning Communities Cultural Centers and Programs and the Center for Access & Postsecondary Success (CAPS). Contributes to planning academic support workshops conferences meetings and seminars.
- Assists in collecting analyzing and presenting program and student data used to evaluate student progress and effectiveness of academic support programming. Prepares reports based on data and recommends changes or improvements.
- Engages with Q Center staff across the UConn system. Completes regional campus visits to engage Q Center coordinators. Assists with implementing Q Center online regional campus tutoring support.
- Makes budget recommendations. Monitors approved budgets and expenditures during the academic year and summer. Assists in identifying resources and funding sources as needed.
- Oversees marketing and communications strategy for Q Center in Storrs. Creates and maintains social media presence. Assists Regional Campus Q Centers with promotion of services and student recruitment.
- Supports holistic accessible and equitable student success efforts at UConn. Teaches a minimum of one First Year Experience seminar a semester. Serve as a UConn Connects mentor each semester.
- Works flexible and/or irregular hours as needed including nights and weekends.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in related field.
- Four to five years of related work experience.
- Experience supporting peer learning and academic engagement programming in a higher education environment.
- Experience teaching or conducting workshops.
- Demonstrated administrative experience including the ability to resolve administrative problems efficiently and collaboratively manage workflows prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgement on administrative and financial matters.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating activities and events with diverse student populations as well as other internal and/or external constituencies.
- Demonstrated experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office products.
- Experience interpreting educational records and related information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters or Doctorate in Mathematics Math Education or Science Education.
- Teaching experience in a STEM field or with first year students/first year experience.
- Experience conducting program evaluations or other educational research experience.
- Experience working with diverse populations in a higher educational setting.
- Supervisory experience.

Other rights terms and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA). The starting salary for this position is $57505
