A successful Director of PMO leads the organizations project management operations ensuring the consistent delivery of high-impact projects that align with strategic business objectives all while making it a delightful experience for stakeholders. They establish and optimize project management frameworks drive cross-functional collaboration and implement best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness across teams. This role also ensures clear communication mitigates risks and aligns project portfolios with organizational priorities to achieve measurable outcomes.
What you will do:
The Director of PMO is responsible for the Project Management Office (PMO) ensuring governance execution frameworks and best practices for high-impact project delivery with underlying duties of:
Project & Program Governance
Implement and maintain project governance frameworks to ensure consistent execution.
Define and enforce best practices methodologies and tools (Agile Waterfall Hybrid).
Provide reporting and analytics to track execution performance.
Execution Oversight
Ensure on-time on-budget and within-scope delivery of all projects.
Identify and mitigate risks proactively across strategic initiatives.
Improve execution methodologies to drive efficiency and accountability.
Process Standardization & Optimization
Develop standardized project intake approval and execution workflows.
Continuously refine execution processes to align with business needs.
Ensure cross-functional collaboration between teams for seamless execution.
Resource & Capacity Planning (Execution Level)
Work closely with business leaders to ensure project resources are effectively allocated.
Manage project staffing plans to align with strategic priorities.
Forecast project workloads and recommend adjustments based on capacity.
Reporting & Performance Tracking
Deliver real-time dashboards and insights on project health risks and OKRs.
Provide executive leadership with clear visibility into execution progress.
Conduct post-project reviews to drive continuous improvement.
Success Metrics:
Project success rates increase with improved governance.
Resource utilization aligns with business priorities.
Risks are proactively managed reducing execution delays.
Standardized execution methodologies improve efficiency
What you will need to have:
Education & Professional Credentials:
Bachelors degree in Business Administration Project Management Engineering or related field (Masters degree preferred).
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is a plus
Agile and/or Scrum certifications (e.g. PMI-ACP Certified ScrumMaster) are a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in project management with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
Strong background in managing complex cross-functional projects ideally in industry/sector (e.g. fintech software healthcare).
Experience in establishing and refining project management methodologies and frameworks (e.g. Agile Waterfall Hybrid).
Demonstrated success in managing and developing project managers teams and stakeholders.
