JOB DESCRIPTION: Personalized Learning Services Paraprofessional

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Personalized Learning Services Paraprofessional is responsible for providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision and instruction of students with significant disabilities; observing and documenting student progress; implementing plans for instruction; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs and monitoring student behavior.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Personalized Learning Services Paraprofessional:

  1. Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs and developing childrens daily living activities and behavioral skills. *
  2. Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students getting on and off the school bus for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety. *
  3. Provides support for the physical needs of students with disabilities including toileting feeding lifting transferring mobility assistance and personal hygiene in accordance with individual care plans and safety protocols. *
  4. Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. *
  5. Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives. *
  6. Maintains a variety of materials (e.g. instructional materials files records charts etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items providing written reference and meeting mandated requirements. *
  7. Manages a variety of assigned activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. *
  8. Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive school environment. *
  9. Participates in the implementation of IEP goals for the purpose of meeting IEP goals and district benchmarks. *
  10. Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects social skills daily living skills etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans and ensuring students success in school all under the supervision of assigned teacher. *
  11. Provides adapted classroom activities assignments and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. *
  12. Provides feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teachers and administrators of student progress. *
  13. Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for the purpose of solving problems providing information and directing to other sources. *
  14. Tutors students on assigned class work for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of work assignments. *
  15. Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *
  16. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model. *
  17. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to use effective communication skills; ability to use time effectively; good organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors); ability to operate standard office equipment and software applications; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; knowledge of instructional techniques; knowledge of safety practices and procedures; knowledge of conflict resolution; knowledge of child development/behavior; ability to maintain a clam demeanor; ability to maintain confidentiality; and ability to meet deadlines and schedules.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory: Minimum of high school education or GED.

Preferred: 1 years of experience working in a school is preferred.

- Strength: to lift push pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 40 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

- Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work outdoors and indoors.

- Mental Requirements: read write understand interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy compare compile and coordinate information and records.

- Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: Requires travel to multiple sites.
