The Director of Campus Ministry will embrace and advance the Catholic Franciscan mission of the University by meeting the spiritual and communal needs of the campus that aligns with the vision and goals for the Office of Mission. This position works in strong collaboration with the Vice President for Mission the Coordinator of Franciscan Student Life and other colleagues within Student Affairs and other administrative and professional colleagues across campus. This role assists in the enhancement and maintenance of a distinctly Catholic and Franciscan campus environment through the planning coordination and implementation of student-centered programming such as retreats community building opportunities conferences liturgy campus events service projects etc. This position will create intentional outreach initiatives to our students at the University while facilitation meaningful connections with each other the University mission and its core values a commitment to their personal vocations and a deep relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Director of Campus Ministry is a committed practicing Catholic. The Director must possess an understanding of the Churchs formal teachings -- e.g. through some formal theological training. The Director must demonstrate an openness and tolerance of other beliefs including a state of religious denial and should be capable of exercising patience and understanding with those currently rejecting a Christian response while holding out to them a positive message of hope and authentic hospitality. Additionally the Director must show evidence of a strong sense of personal ministry prayerfulness and spirituality that is visible. Some personal experience in a pastoral or counseling role should be evident. #CB
ResponsibilitiesJOB STANDARDS
- Mission Advancement
- Embrace and advance the Catholic and Franciscan mission of the University by facilitating the spiritual life of the campus including sacramental formative and spiritual community initiatives
- Sacramental Coordination
- Ensures the availability of sacramental offerings by organizing Priests supplies schedules and liturgical seasonal events such as Mass Reconciliation and other university-supported sacramental needs as requested
- Conference Mission Trips and Pilgrimage Leadership
- Facilitate opportunities for student conferences such as SEEK (an invitation to explore lifes big questions and discover ones purpose through faith fellowship and a deeper relationship with Christ) and oversee the planning development and coordination of local national and international mission trips
- Student Spiritual Formation
- Coordinate the provision of spiritual guidance and formation to students through one-on-one encounters and programs offered within FSLSL fostering faith development and servant leadership
- Community Engagement
- Develop programs that enhance opportunities for community building within the spiritual context
- Collaborative Partnerships
- Establish and maintain internal and external partnerships on campus the Diocese of Baton Rouge and other external partners to expand ministry initiatives
- Student Leadership Formation
- Organize and facilitate Student Advisory Boards to guide campus ministry initiatives and assist in Student Leadership Development initiatives such as TFE Summer and College Team formation
- Marketing and Promotion
- Participate in opportunities to market and promote Campus Ministry to the campus through programs such as orientations campus events off campus events etc.
- Special Project Support
- Assist in planning and coordination of special projects all related functions and other events/programs as assigned by the Director of Franciscan Student Life & Servant Leadership
- Additional Duties as Assigned
- Support various programs events and administrative tasks aimed at fulfilling institutional goals
- Perform other duties as assigned
QualificationsEXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated experience in ministry (with college students/young adults) preferred
EDUCATION
- Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Theology Ministry or a related area;
- Three (3) four (4) years of ministry experience could be substituted for Theology Degree or willingness to pursue Theology education
SPECIAL SKILLS
- Excellent collaborative ability;
- Effective communication strategies with college students including social media platforms and e-mail;
- Understanding of the role of Catholic higher education as outlined by Ex Corde Ecclesiae;
- A commitment to enhance the Catholic Franciscan mission of the University;
- Strong interpersonal and group communication skills;
- Effective conflict management and resolution skills
