Thurrock Council are seeking an ASB Officer to join its specialised ASB and Enforcement Team.

You will be working within a team providing a service for tenants leaseholders and Thurrock residents. The team investigates complaints of anti-social behaviour nuisance and hate related incidents whilst providing support to victims witnesses and complainants.

You must have extensive experience relating to the management of anti-social behaviour. This will include managing a diverse workload adhering to targets preparing witness statements and working in partnership with the police and agencies to bring cases to a successful conclusion including attending court hearings where necessary

The Anti-Social Behaviour Team provide a high profile frontline high visibility proactive and reactive response to all aspects of nuisance Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) and hate related incidents in and related to council tenancies. We are keen to promote social responsibility community cohesion and awareness of and apply all requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • To manage a caseload of ASB and Hate Crime cases to ensure you provide a high profile proactive & reactive ASB service across the borough.
  • To utilise a comprehensive range of prevention intervention and enforcement (P.I.E) tactics whilst carrying out enforcement duties within the framework of current and future relevant legislation.
  • To carry out visits investigations and other duties as appropriate to ensure the gathering and collation of evidence to take the most appropriate action to meet the councils statutory duties. This includes out of court disposals through the issuance of notices including the issuance of Fixed Penalty Notices and formal court action through the civil or criminal courts as appropriate.
  • To apply legal action protocols and in particular the Public Sector Equality Duty by working with colleagues and partners in support and intervention services.
  • To consider victims a priority for our response to nuisance ASB and hate related incidents. By supporting and assisting witnesses and victims as a core part of case management as appropriate.

This role requires experience of:

  • An ability to work with other community safety partners (e.g. the police) and council departments to provide an effective and timely response to matters impacting community cohesion.
  • Managing demanding workloads and to prioritise tasks and projects to meet set performance targets and standards.
  • A working knowledge of the enforcement tools and powers available to tackle ASB and hate-related incidents.

No DBS is required for this role however the successful candidate will be required to successfully attain Essex Police vetting to NPPV-2 (Full) in order to undertake the role.
