The Surfrider Foundation seeks to hire an individual to coordinate Surfriders programs in Puerto Rico. The coordinator will work with Puerto Rico Programs Manager Blue Water Task Force Coordinator local volunteers and Surfriders initiative regional and headquarters staff to advance the conservation and restoration of Puerto Ricos coastline. This position plays a crucial role in the preservation of Puerto Ricos coastal ecosystems. The coordinator will identify new project opportunities maintain Surfriders mangrove nursery develop partnerships and resources communicate program impact to the public and internally and support fundraising efforts. This is a full time position based in Isabela.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate Surfriders Climate Action Program activities in Puerto Rico
Plan and coordinate mangrove and dune restoration events including event promotion volunteer recruitment logistics and data input
Manage Surfriders mangrove nursery in Isabela
Manage Hispanic Access Foundation Grant associated activities including restoration projects and grant administration
Work with Surfriders Associate Director of Institutional Giving Climate Action Program Manager and Puerto Ricos Programs Manager to develop invoices provide regular reporting on activities and ensure deadlines are met
Ensure compliance with all grant administrative processes and requirements
Support other program activities as needed
Coordinate volunteer and student club beach cleanups including promotion logistics recruitment and data input
Work with the Blue Water Task Force Puerto Rico Program Coordinator to advance beach water quality monitoring activities in Isabela Aguadilla Rincon and other sites in Puerto Rico
Support Surfriders Ocean Friendly Restaurants and Hotels Program activities in Puerto Rico
Outreach and education
Lead education activities with students at schools during field trips and at Surfriders Isabela office
Develop education materials with the support of Surfriders Climate Action Program Manager and other Surfrider staff
Reports to: Puerto Rico Programs Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years of professional experience working on coastal ecosystem conservation and restoration.
Bachelors degree in environmental studies marine biology oceanography geology urban planning or a related field.
Understanding of nature-based solutions blue carbon and coastal resilience issues.
Experience managing grants and grant funded projects.
Excellent writing skills.
Ability to communicate clearly with media youth public audiences the scientific community and policy makers.
Ability or willingness to learn how to use tech tools platforms and apps such as Salesforce Hubspot Golden Google Drive and Basecamp
Ability to work flexible hours (including some weekends and evenings) as needed within the full-time weekly schedule
General knowledge of technical tools including Google Applications and other desktop tools
SALARY:
This is a full-time position which is contingent upon continued funding currently funded for a one-year term.
The position will be compensated with a salary commensurate with the candidates experience level. The Surfrider Foundation offers a salary that is competitive with other national not-for-profit conservation organizations.

Salary Range: Minimum $52000 - Maximum $72500
How Does the Surfrider Foundation Establish Salary Ranges
The Surfrider Foundation researches evaluates and compares like-sized non-profit organizations to establish ranges for each position level to ensure that employees are justly compensated. The established range takes multiple factors into account; experience educational background scope and complexity of work special skills added value to the organization geographic cost-of-living inflation/current market demand equity and more. The Surfrider Foundation prides itself on a high rate of retention with 32% of staff having been employed with the organization for 10 years. Please keep in mind that the maximum end of our ranges also account for longevity and tenure within the role.
BENEFITS:
Health: Medical dental and vision benefit premiums are paid 100% by Surfrider Foundation for employee-only coverage. Dependents may be added on at an additional cost.
Retirement: 401(k) plan offering a match of .50 of every dollar contributed by the employee up to a maximum of 4% of earnings (in other terms a 2% employer match).
Vacation Accrual: Enjoy a generous allotment of vacation days per year. Rollover unused days to the following year subject to company maximum accrual policy.
Sick time Accrual: 12 sick days/year
Holidays: 20 paid holidays total in 2025
