Job Description

A little about us:

The Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD) was established in 2010 to plot a new course in biomedical research that would change the lives of individuals affected with developmental brain disorders. We are one of the only research institutions in the world focused specifically on understanding how genes and the environment influence the way our brains develop that lead to conditions such as schizophrenia autism bipolar disorder and related developmental brain disorders. Through our cutting-edge research answers are emerging and being translated into a robust pipeline of new drugs in development. And by focusing on genes and their dynamic interplay with the environment we are getting even closer to the holy grail in medical research the discovery of strategies for primary prevention.


We are a group of dedicated multidisciplinary and optimistic researchers working at the cutting edge of science utilizing state-of-the-art tools to unlock the mystery of the brain and transform the way we approach the development of new treatments and ultimately cures. LIBD is an independent 501(c)(3) medical research institute located in the Bioscience Park on the campus of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Hospital in Baltimore MD.


Job Summary:

The Lieber Institute is seeking a hands-on tech-savvy Marketing Manager to help implement and evolve our growing marketing and communications program. This mid-level role is perfect for a creative and resourceful marketer with a few years of professional experience who is ready to manage a broad portfolio from digital strategy and content creation to public relations and events.


You will collaborate across departments from scientific labs to fundraising and leadership and play a key role in advancing the Institutes mission through compelling storytelling community engagement and smart use of digital tools. You should be comfortable translating complex concepts into content that is engaging and relatable.


We are particularly focused on finding creative ways to trigger and deepen engagement with our primary audiences including brain donor families research supporters investors and the broader community impacted by the diseases we are working to prevent and cure.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

The position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


Digital Marketing & Content Creation

-Manage and maintain the Institutes website and social media content in coordination with external partners.

-Serve as point of contact for outsourced social media partner and write proof design and schedule social media posts and digital marketing campaigns.

-Draft engaging content such as articles blog posts email newsletters news updates podcasts videos and other marketing collateral.

-Collaborate with fundraising staff to develop donor-focused communications and materials.


Supporter Engagement

-Use creative strategies to connect with brain donor families supporters followers and community members.

-Review messaging and campaigns with an eye toward deepening long-term engagement with the Institute its labs and researchers.


Public Relations

-Support the development of a speakers bureau to promote Lieber experts to external organizations events and media.

-Draft and distribute press releases media advisories and story pitches.

-Help manage relationships with media contacts and track coverage.

-Assist with logistics for interviews media requests and leadership communications.


Website & Analytics

-Manage ongoing content updates and work on site improvements using platforms like WordPress and Elementor.

-Monitor website and social media performance using Google Analytics and other tools; share actionable insights.

-Help manage Google Ads campaigns and optimize for SEO and user engagement.


Campaign & Event Support

-Assist in promoting and executing events such as webinars research briefings and fundraising campaigns.

-Coordinate production of supporting materials including flyers videos and presentations.

-Help with audience segmentation outreach strategy and post-campaign analysis.


Internal Coordination

-Collaborate with scientists development staff and leadership to align messaging and priorities.

-Manage marketing calendars timelines and asset libraries.

-Help maintain brand standards and ensure visual and messaging consistency across all platforms.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Marketing Communications Journalism or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in marketing communications or a related field.
  • A Masters degree can substitute for some years of experience.

*Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position.


Special Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

-Strong writing and editing skills; ability to distill complex topics into accessible and engaging content.

-Experience managing websites (WordPress Elementor or similar CMS) and social media accounts.

-Familiarity with digital tools such as Canva Mailchimp/Constant Contact Google Analytics and Adobe Creative Suite (bonus).

-Comfortable using project management platforms and collaborative tools (e.g. Teams Google Workspace).

-Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.

-A passion for science mental health and nonprofit mission-driven work.

-Experience or willingness to learn basic video and audio editing for podcast and video content.

-Able to work effectively and efficiently toward goals in a diverse and dynamic environment with multiple and changing demands

-Ability to develop manage and track relevant performance measures. Strong time management skills including being able to work with tight deadlines.

-Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with all departments and all levels of personnel

-Fluency in written and spoken English is required


Physical Requirements:

-Remaining in a seated or standing position for extended periods of time;

-Reaching and grasping to manipulate objects with fingers for example using a keyboard;

-Communication skills using the spoken and written word;

-Prolonged ability to view computer screen paper reports/documents charts and results;

-Having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communications;

-Mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as small office furnishings reams of paper a laptop computer or files);

-All other physical demands in a standard office environment.

Compensation

Candidates are hired within the starting salary range for the position which is the lower portion of the overall range. The starting salary range for this position is $65000 $85000 with opportunities for employee growth over time. Placement in the starting range is based on job-related skills and experience as evaluated throughout the interview process.
