Job Summary
The College of Architecture Planning ( CAP ) at the University of Utah seeks a dynamic organized and experienced individual to lead operations strategic planning and staffing across multiple areas in the Deans Office in support of the goals and mission of the College and the University. The position will play a crucial role in managing the colleges facilities and services supervising and mentoring staff and supporting academic units and student experience. The successful candidate will report directly to the dean (or deans delegate) and collaborate with the college leadership team to develop and implement strategic priorities create and track key departmental performance metrics and review and update processes in coordination with the dean. Key Responsibilities: Supervise and manage multiple departments within the College including Facilities Workshop and Front Office. Oversee all applicable functions (e.g. staff supervision operations scheduling occupational safety and regulatory compliance etc.). Serve as the primary liaison between college and university shared services on Human Resources and IT. Lead development and implementation of plans and policies in support of the colleges mission and strategic priorities. Create and track key departmental performance metrics. Collaborate with internal stakeholders in support of growth initiatives but does not have responsibility for market profit and loss (P&L). Resolve escalated issues and concerns. First-level director. Assist executives in defining college goals and strategic plans. Extensive knowledge with comprehensive understanding of the college and functional areas.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include: 1. Directs the development and implementation of operations objectives that are consistent with the College of Architecture and Plannings and University of Utahs goals and objectives. 2. May develop logistic plans and procedures to ensure that internal university and external entities needs are met. 3. May be responsible for grand scale scheduling and coordination of large multi-functional areas or departments. 4. Responsible for evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures and determining implementation of changes as needed. 5. Provides strategic direction by setting short and long-term goals estimating budgetary requirements for staff space and equipment planning and implementing special projects and policies. 6. Develops strategies consistent with the University of Utahs continuous quality improvement program. 7. Oversees all aspects of staff management including recruitment retention training/coaching and development of assigned staff. 8. Forecasts staffing capital and operating budget needs in evaluating and reporting on market sensitivity financial analysis space utilization review staff performance evaluation etc. 9. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through. 10. Oversees the analysis and determination of appropriate staff mix to support customer needs. 11. Ensures competency of management/supervisory staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and through on-going staff performance evaluation. 12. Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers. 13. Participates in university-wide committees to establish customer/patient service and administrative plans and policies. 14. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business or Public Administration a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership human relations and effective communication skills also required. Masters degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
