Position Summary
This position is designed to assist students to move more efficiently and effectively towards graduation and career goals. This individual will have the responsibility of providing advising support outreach recruiting and referral assisting with divisional communication and developing and participating in a variety of program division and university events for the STEM division (includes majors in biology chemistry computer science and mathematics; masters in environmental education; and supports pre-professional students interested in health careers). This individual will collaborate with Admissions Pre-college Youth Programs and other campus constituents to participate in activities focused on recruitment advising and retention including but not limited to New Student Orientation Week of Welcome Raider Registration Preview Days and campus visits. This individual will play a key role in academic advising and career planning and will assist students to develop an effective educational plan to explore careers and to implement career planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and tracking students expected academic degree progress and providing intrusive advising to students in their division who have been identified as needing advising support and/or academic coaching. The successful candidate will consult and collaborate with various campus offices and services as needed for students at academic risk. Additionally this position monitors and tracks expected academic progress of students in the Division at all levels of their education.
Physical Demands
Normal office activities such as sitting at a computer answering a phone move/transport up to 25 lbs and interacting with students faculty patrons and the public.
Duties
Divisional communication: Assists in management and execution of student communication material (e.g. web sites social media email etc.). Writes and edits content for a variety of online and print materials. Assists in management of social media sites. Facilitates divisional exit interviews and collects information on graduate employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree Degree in a STEM related field or experience advising or working with students pursuing a STEM related career. Experience with student career counseling Demonstrated competence in student data tracking and analysis
