Job Description

Job Title: Director of Information Technology

Terms of Employment: 12 Months

Pay Grade: 131

Job Summary:

The purpose of this job is to ensure that the systems used in each department integrate and provide accurate information to users. The director will also oversee the data department and ensure that state reports are submitted correctly and on time.

Essential Duties

  1. Supervises directs trains and evaluates assigned staff processing employee concerns and problems directing work counseling disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.
  2. Coordinates assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  3. Oversees data integration/system operation and training for the Edmentum instructional platform.
  4. Collaborates with the instructional team and other staff in the design and implementation of selected district initiatives and associated software programs.
  5. Collaborates and plans with the Supervisor of Professional Learning to oversee Instructional Technology Coaches and their implementation of teacher training and district initiatives.
  6. Oversees the management of division Student Information System (PowerSchool SIS) and Student Enrollment Management System (PowerSchool Enrollment).
  7. Ensures data integration/system operations of E-Finance SmartFind Powerschool and Unified Talent applications.
  8. Collaborates with Human Resource and Finance to produce efficient and effective processes.
  9. Ensures that the technology capabilities are responsive to and aligned with the academic and operational functions of the District.
  10. Creates and manages all aspects of Bedford County Public Schools Website including providing support to central office and schools with webpage issues user accounts and page permissions.
  11. Posts all division level communications on BCPS website.
  12. Maintains knowledge and understanding of current and developing information systems technology.
  13. Maintains professional contacts with other school districts external research entities vendors and professional organizations concerning existing and developing information technologies.
  14. Completes Virginia Department of Education reports as required.
  15. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations policies and procedures.
  16. Establishes and implements short and long-range departmental goals objectives and operating procedures.
  17. Directs the development design and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages.
  18. Ensures development review and certification of all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
  19. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications

Must possess ten (10) years of experience in information technology. Experience in a K-12 education setting is desirable.

Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time and lifting up to 25 pounds: requires little or no dexterity.
