The Department of Athletics Faculty at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for Director of Athletics (Faculty) for Mansfield. The home campus for this position is Mansfield. This is Mansfield Athletics Mansfield University Athletics is a member of NCAA DII Pennsylvania Athletic Conference ( PSAC ) sponsoring 12 sports. The Mounties also sponsor a sprint football program which competes in the Collegiate Sprint Football League ( CSFL ). Knowledge invests us with the power to improve our world and the responsibility to act. Why the Mountaineers One of the most recognizable symbols of Mansfield is the Mountaineers mascot. He is often portrayed as an independent and self-reliant individual clad in furs and carrying a musket. He is ready and able to take on any foe man or beast. Over the years the Mansfield sports teams known as the Mountaineers have known their share of success. Several Mountaineers have gone on to professional sports careers. The story of the Mountaineer however comes from the battlefield rather than the sporting arena. While the early settlers of Manns Field certainly were mountaineers the origins of the Mountaineer lies with the Ladies Aid Society which operated during the American Civil War. Most of the information in this article was provided by the book Tioga Mountaineers by Chester Bailey Mansfield historian and former owner of the Mansfield Advertiser. Additional information came from the 101st Pa. Historical Society. The society credits Baileys book along with several other sources. These sources as well as Tri-Counties Genealogy and History by Joyce M. Tice provide additional histories of the unit. School Colors Mansfields official school colors are Red and Black. History In 1862 Mansfield Classical Seminary became the Mansfield Normal School. In 1926 Mansfield State Normal School was granted the right to give four-year Collegiate degrees and was officially changed to Mansfield State Teachers College in 1927. In 1960 the Pennsylvania Department of Education granted MSTC an expansion of liberal arts programs allowing the school to become Mansfield State College. On July 1 1983 the State System of Higher Education bill was passed and Mansfield State College became Mansfield University as part of the newest Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Duties
Reporting to the Mansfield Campus Administrator the Director of Athletics is responsible for providing visionary leadership organization budgeting and evaluation of 12 intercollegiate athletic teams which compete at the Division II level and a sprint football program which competes in the Collegiate Sprint Football League ( CSFL ). In addition the Director works in collaboration with the Mansfield Foundation to raise external funding for intercollegiate athletics and serves as the principal liaison and representative for athletics with the campus community conference and national affiliations. The Director is a faculty position represented by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties ( APSCUF ) and a member of an academic department. The Director will have a lead role in program assessment and in athletics facilities development and is expected to achieve high expectations with accountability for bottom line results. The Director of Athletics is a faculty member in the Department of Athletics Faculty and as such shall be a fully functioning member of the department as defined in the APSCUF CBA . The Director provides leadership and oversees all aspects of the intercollegiate athletics program including the supervision of all programs and personnel budgeting contest scheduling transportation scheduling of facilities fundraising the recruitment of academically and athletically talented student-athletes and the recruitment and evaluation of coaches. In addition the Director ensures the athletic program achieves campus conference and NCAA rules compliance. The Director will delegate specific responsibilities to assure the efficient and productive operation of all academic administrative business and fiscal activities of the department. Maintains a physical on-campus presence and be actively involved in the community Schedules and manages all contests and their arrangements Administers regulations of appropriate athletics governing bodies Participates in selection of coaching staff Represents Mansfield athletics in an official capacity at events and to appropriate state regional and national organizations Prepares budgets monitor expenditures and ensures fiscal stewardship Initiates designs and implements long-range plans for the athletic program Promotes Athletics within the mission of CU Works collaboratively with health care professionals to ensure proper medical/health care is provided for student athletes Directs efforts to equalize opportunities for men and women in sports Promotes an inclusive environment for student-athletes coaches and staff Serves as a representative to campus and CU committees as appropriate Fulfills the duties required of the Director of Athletics by the Agreement between APSCUF and PASSHE for Non-Faculty Athletic Coaches Develops and implements a strategy for achieving fund-raising goals that progressively increases alumni and donor financial support for the athletic department Develops and implements a strategy for securing corporate sponsorships that progressively increases financial support for Mansfield Athletics Actively builds and maintains positive relationships that benefit the athletic department in local and regional community Serves as the primary representative of Mansfield Athletics to the Commonwealth University community and with external constituents and stakeholders Monitors and maintains NCAA compliance requirements with extensive knowledge of intercollegiate sports and athletics rules and regulations Develops collaborative relationships with other campus offices to ensure compliance quality of service and institutional integrity.
