Duties and Responsibilities
- * Coordinates reviews of manuscripts by journal editorial staff including responses from peer reviewers. Assigns manuscripts to various editorial staff and follows up as needed to assure timely manuscript reviews. May coordinate multiple iterations of review per manuscript as needed
- Reaches out to additional peer reviewers and/or authors to receive additional recommendations for peer reviewers as needed
- Alerts editorial team to manuscript concerns and issues such as plagiarism author complaints or feedback changes in authorship plans for resubmission etc.
- * Coordinates with the Editorial Board to ensure the final approval of manuscripts
- * Coordinates reviews of column submissions by various contributing editors (e.g. Public Health Insights Medical Hotline Scripts etc.)
- Coordinates manuscript typesetting with Scholastica
- * Prepares the journal for dissemination using typeset articles and additional material in appropriate software such as Adobe InDesign
- * Coordinates the annual Writing Contest including recruitment of judges review of submissions scoring announcement of winners and prize distribution
- Coordinates journal announcements (for example call for additional editors) as needed
- Prepares and disseminates a monthly newsletter to journal readership that includes links to published articles
- Seeks opportunities to expand and grow journal readership.
- * Updates and maintains the website
- Updates manuscript submission supplement submission and other guidance as applicable
- *Prepares annual reports that includes statistics on journal submission and publication volume turnaround time and reach
- * Attends and coordinates the monthly HJH&SW staff meeting and annual executive board meetings and creates the agenda and meeting minutes
- Participate in training of editors
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Professional Work Experience:- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in public health social work nursing pharmacy health sciences social sciences or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for communication and/or scientific writing; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:- Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of for communication and/or scientific writingdemonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with for communication and/or scientific writing
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of for communication and/or scientific writing.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software spreadsheets and basic design software.

Desirable Qualifications
- Masters or higher in Public Health Social Work Nursing Pharmacy or related field
- Excellent time management skills.
- Experience in publication work.
- Demonstrated experience with scientific writing.
- Experience with proofreading and editing papers for scholarly publications.
- Familiarity with health issues of concern to Hawaii and the Pacific.
- Competence working with providers of and educators in the health services.
- Experience with MailChimp or similar newsletter software.
- Experience with Adobe Dreamweaver or similar web design software.
- Knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of professional communications such as journal production and publication.
- Knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with academic publications.
