SALARY: up to $87128 annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Water Treatment in South Bends Public Works Department is responsible for planning directing and overseeing the operation and maintenance of the citys water treatment plants. This role ensures compliance with EPA and IDEM regulatory standards and involves supervising various staff including Maintenance Manager Operations Supervisors and Operations and Maintenance Techs. The Director must possess extensive knowledge of water operations process controls and regulatory requirements and is tasked with maintaining sound relations with regulatory bodies the community and employees. Additionally the Director implements and oversees the citys personnel procedures and policies ensuring a high degree of professionalism and independent judgment.
Key responsibilities include managing the citys SCADA system participating in the budgeting process and leading safety and information-sharing meetings. The Director is also involved in hiring training and evaluating water personnel as well as recommending improvements to operational processes and systems. This position requires strong communication skills leadership problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous improvement making it crucial for maintaining safe drinking water and efficient water treatment operations in South Bend.

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday between 7AM-3:30PM. Hours may vary based on operational needs.

The physical demands outlined here represent those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a standard office setting and in the field. Some exposure to noise dust grease smoke fumes noxious odors gases and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain. The work environment is both formal and informal team oriented having variable tasks with moderate inside temperatures. The entire office is smoke free.
