Job Description

Are you passionate about solar energy research in Alaska Are you interested in leading diverse and collaborative research efforts Do you have experience obtaining funding publishing technical reports and engaging with a wide variety of audiences Our team is growing and we need your skills to further understand the role of solar photovoltaics in Alaska and northern latitudes! Join the UAF Alaska Center for Energy and Power as the lead of our Solar Technologies Program and experience the opportunities that research in a higher education setting brings. This unique role integrates insights from the research community industry and government agencies to strategically guide a program aimed at advancing Alaska and other northern latitude regions towards a future characterized by greater solar energy utilization.

ACEP fosters innovative solutions to Alaskas energy challenges and is a gateway for energy-related activity at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

To thrive in this role you should possess a passion for solar energy research and a desire to solve complex research questions about the application of solar photovoltaics in Alaska. Balancing the big picture view of the current state of solar energy in Alaska with individual research interests will provide the highest level of success. In a typical week you will be expected to develop and manage research projects and lead and supervise research professionals while collaborating to secure funding from external sources managing data streams and publishing technical reports.

This position has an important role in representing ACEP and you will be expected to develop and maintain professional relationships with a diverse stakeholder pool. This will involve culturally appropriate communication and collaboration with tribal entities Alaska utilities federal funding agencies and labs state agencies and private businesses and industry on a regular basis.

An important part of this position will be managing multiple projects at a time which will require organizing and leading individuals and groups overseeing data collection and tracking deliverables to ensure the timely completion all the while staying current on the latest developments in solar energy research.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in the physical sciences or engineering and four years research experience at the postgraduate level in a field relevant to the research (e.g. science engineering) or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Academic background in engineering with advanced knowledge of and experience in research methodologies. Experience in proposal development field research scientific publishing and procedures required in program leadership and operation.

Experience in supporting scientific research or arctic engineering. In lieu of a degree in sciences or engineering training or experience in these fields is desired. Experience in program and project management.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage requests to work from the UAF campus in Fairbanks will also be considered and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time term-funded exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary andfull employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options annual leave 12 paid holidays per year tuition waivers for employees and family members and affordable medical dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on theUA Staff Salary Schedule Grade 82 based on education and experience.
