***This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is expected to be available on September 1 2025.***


Reporting to the Associate Warden for Programs this position will function in the Programs section at a medium custody male correctional facility. This positions responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Communicating effectively with staff offenders and the general public verbally and in written form.
  2. Serving as coordinator and advisor to the Directors Sub-Committees (DSC) and to area institution and/or complex authorities.
  3. Attending Directors Sub-Committee meetings to advise on policies and procedures as well as on unique aspects or special needs of a particular prison facility or offender.
  4. Advocating problem cases through DSC to the Directors Review Committee (DRC) and coordinate transfers of offenders accordingly.
  5. Serving as consultant to lower classification committees at the area institutional and complex levels and providing informal training in interpreting policies procedures and laws.
  6. Possessing thorough knowledge of the classification process and a knowledge of programs and unique aspects of each prison facility.
  7. Understanding and utilizing testing results and psychological aspects along with a knowledge of characteristics of mental conditions and understanding of sociological facets and family interactions.
  8. Serving as a member on the DCC and FCC committees.
  9. Serving as coordinator of tort claims.




Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies



  1. Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.

  2. Documented knowledge of the offender classification process.

TheNorth Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC)is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes Institutions with custody healthcare and facility operations staff in state prisons as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration Compliance & Accreditation Comprehensive Health Services Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.


The Division of Institutionsis one of the divisions in DAC andemploys a variety of staff operates 56 institutions and is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30000 incarcerated individuals across North Carolina. Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels which include minimum medium and close. The Division of Institutions has a duty to provide a secure and safe environment along with the proper care and supervision for every individual in our custody.
