As a Principal Product Designer within the Dow Jones Design & Research team based in our Barcelona office you will own the design outcomes of multiple mission-critical programs and emerging areas of significant scope driving impact from initial concept through to implementation and measurement.
This is an influential individual contributor role where you will partner closely with cross-functional teams and act as a trusted authority on user experience for leadership. You will guide teams in defining and executing product design strategy evaluating product impact and exploring innovative solutions that proactively consider and mitigate potential risks. Your work will directly contribute to increasing the value and differentiation of Dow Jones products in a complex and evolving landscape.
A Unique Opportunity:
This role based in Barcelona offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge intelligence into our product ecosystem reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Product Design for the Risk and Compliance portfolio. Following the recent acquisitions of Dragonfly Intelligence and Oxford Analytica you will play a pivotal role in seamlessly incorporating geopolitical security and macroeconomic intelligence into Dow Joness product offerings.
Dow Jones Risk & Compliance products provide data technology solutions and services to help businesses manage regulatory and reputational risks particularly in areas like financial crime third-party risk and trade compliance.
Shape Intelligence Experiences: Design intuitive UX that transforms complex geopolitical and security intelligence into actionable insights for risk professionals.
Champion Product Integration: Define and drive the UX work for seamlessly integrating Dragonfly and Oxford Analytica into Dow Jones products.
Collaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with product engineering and editorial teams (including new acquisitions) to ensure a unified experience.
Drive Innovation: Identify opportunities and design solutions leveraging Dragonfly content to meet evolving user needs in risk and compliance.
Own End-to-End Design: Take full responsibility for the design process for key programs from concept to measurement.
Guide & Inspire Teams: Mentor and inspire designers fostering a culture of design excellence.
Drive Product Impact: Define and evaluate product success through a user-centered lens aligning with business goals.
Advance Design: Contribute to evolving Dow Joness design principles methods and tools.
What a successful candidate will accomplish:
Immerse yourself in the Dow Jones Risk & Compliance product suite understanding existing workflows jobs to be done and key stakeholders.
Begin deep dives into Dragonfly Intelligence and Oxford Analyticas offerings understanding their data structures intelligence types and current delivery mechanisms.
Establish initial connections with key product engineering and intelligence teams from both Dow Jones and the newly acquired entities.
Identify initial areas of opportunity for quick wins in integrating intelligence into existing Dow Jones products.
Conduct user research and stakeholder interviews with current and potential users of combined Dow Jones/Dragonfly/Oxford Analytica offerings to identify critical pain points and high-impact opportunities.
Develop initial concepts and user flows for integrating specific intelligence feeds into relevant Dow Jones products focusing on clarity actionability etc.
Present preliminary design concepts to leadership and cross-functional teams gathering feedback and aligning on strategic direction.
Begin defining key design principles and guidelines for the integration of geopolitical and security intelligence across the product portfolio.
Lead the design and prototyping of a key feature or product enhancement that demonstrates the value of integrated Dragonfly/Oxford Analytica intelligence.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility and a smooth implementation path for proposed design solutions.
Refine user experience strategies based on initial testing and feedback iterating on designs to optimize for user needs and business impact.
Act as a trusted advisor to product leadership on the user experience implications of integration decisions providing alternative perspectives and provoking deeper thinking.
Successfully launch a significant product or feature that seamlessly integrates Dragonfly/Oxford Analytica intelligence demonstrating measurable positive impact on user engagement product value or business outcomes.
Have established a clear long-term user experience and product strategy for the integrated intelligence offerings widely evangelized and adopted across the Product Area.
Be recognized as a key authority on designing for complex geopolitical and security intelligence leading the development of new design methodologies or systems within Dow Jones.
Actively mentor junior and mid-level designers contributing to the overall culture and capabilities of the design team in handling complex data and strategic product challenges.
You Have
Deep expertise in end-to-end product design processes including information architecture interaction design visual design and prototyping with a compelling portfolio showcasing successful outcomes for complex mission-critical programs.
A proven ability to define and champion long-term user experience and product strategy effectively influencing cross-functional leaders and driving significant impact at a Product Area level.
A strong track record of delivering innovative and user-centered design solutions to ambiguous and highly complex challenges leveraging advanced knowledge of design systems methodologies and industry trends to create differentiated product value.
A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in product design roles with at least 3-5 years operating at a Staff or Principal level within a large-scale technology organization ideally within the information services financial or risk & compliance sectors.

Excellent communication presentation and storytelling skills with the ability to articulate design rationale to diverse audiences including executive leadership.
A strong understanding of user-centered design principles accessibility guidelines and inclusive design practices.
A proactive and collaborative work style with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
An undergraduate degree in Design Human-Computer Interaction or a related field is preferred.
Willingness to work in our Barcelona Spain office.
