Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in maintaining and repairing heavy equipment with a focus on engines hydraulic systems and transmissions. This position is critical to ensuring our fleet of heavy machinery operates efficiently and effectively minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all types of heavy equipment engines hydraulic systems and transmissions (including but not limited to excavators bulldozers telehandlers cranes and forklifts).
- Diagnose mechanical electrical and hydraulic problems and determine the most effective repair strategies.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic components including pumps valves hoses and cylinders ensuring that systems function properly.
- Overhaul and rebuild diesel engines transmissions and other powertrain components to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes filter replacements fluid checks and other essential service tasks.
- Use diagnostic tools technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot issues with machinery and determine the root causes of mechanical or electrical failures.
- Repair or replace worn-out damaged or defective parts in engines hydraulic systems and transmissions ensuring the proper functioning of heavy equipment.
- Test and inspect repaired equipment to ensure it meets safety and operational standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs service records and equipment history.
- Coordinate with the equipment operators and supervisors to schedule repairs and maintenance to minimize downtime during production.
- Follow safety guidelines and protocols at all times when performing maintenance and repair work.
- Assist in ordering parts and maintaining an inventory of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Perform emergency repairs as needed to minimize equipment downtime and ensure smooth operations.
- Keep the work environment clean organized and safe ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification or vocational training is a plus).
- Proven experience in heavy equipment maintenance focusing on engines hydraulic systems and transmissions.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical electrical and hydraulic repair methods and techniques.
- Experience using diagnostic tools manuals and schematics to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams blueprints and service manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete tasks effectively.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
- A valid driver s license (CDL is a plus).
- Knowledge of safety standards and the ability to follow safety protocols while performing maintenance tasks.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in heavy equipment repair hydraulic systems or engine diagnostics (e.g. ASE certifications OEM training).
- Experience with electronic systems and machine diagnostics.
- Previous work experience in the construction mining or other industrial sectors where heavy equipment is utilized.
- Familiarity with fuel systems braking systems cooling systems and other heavy machinery components.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with possible shift work or overtime based on project needs.
- Work performed in an industrial or outdoor environment with exposure to noise dirt and various weather conditions.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves safety goggles steel-toe boots and hearing protection required.
- Some manual labor may be required to assist with lifting and handling heavy parts or machinery.
