The Head of Portfolio Management is Qantas key leader for establishing and leading a new enterprise-wide Portfolio Management Office (PMO).  This role is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer Enterprise (CTO Enterprise) and will be instrumental in supporting critical business organisational and technology transformations.


The role exists to optimise the planning funding and delivery of a five-year technology change portfolio aligned to the Tech 2030 roadmap. As the inaugural hire the incumbent will design the PMO operating model build the team and processes and deliver progressively advanced portfolio capabilities. The outcome is an integrated view of prioritisation resourcing benefits and risk that accelerates strategic value for Qantas. 


The Head of Portfolio Management will be accountable for developing Practices for managing a large portfolio of technology projects along with some high-profile business projects. They will lead best practice in how program/project technical business analysis and change management is undertaken. In addition they will have responsibility for an enterprise change calendar and management of impacts. As a People Leader this role will be a key decision-maker to recruit and retain top-talent in the Portfolio Management Office providing employee coaching mentoring development and team building. 
 

Youll have:

  • Significant experience (10 yrs) leading portfolio / program management of large-scale technology portfolios (>A$100 m 100 projects) with at least 5 years leading a PMO or EPMO in a complex regulated industry
  • Minimum bachelors degree in business Technology or Engineering; postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) desirable
  • Certified PfMP MoP PMP or equivalent; Agile/Lean accreditation advantageous
  • Strategic portfolio leadership with demonstrated ability to translate strategy into a balanced program & project portfolio set prioritisation criteria and make data-driven decisions that maximise value manage risk and optimise capacity.
  • Expertise in designing and evolving PMO frameworks and assurance mechanisms that scale across business units while remaining pragmatic and outcome focused.
  • Financial and resource management acumen proven skill in investment planning benefit realisation tracking and enterprise resource forecasting (people vendors tools) to ensure on-time and on-budget outcome delivery
  • Influencing stakeholders and communication exceptional ability to engage executives business sponsors and project teams negotiate trade-offs and convey complex portfolio insights through compelling narratives dashboards and reports.
  • Track record of driving adoption of project disciplines coaching project managers and championing continuous improvement and leading enterprise-wide change
    initiatives.
