The Opportunity: The College of Arts & Sciences at Washington State University (WSU) Tri-Cities seeks to develop applicant pools for adjunct faculty to teach course offerings throughout the academic year. *This pool is for instructional needs within the Sciences.*
The College is particularly interested in applicants that are qualified to teach Biology and Environmental Science courses but we are also pleased to accept applications from individuals with expertise in the following disciplines or academic areas:
Chemistry
Mathematics
Statistics
Physics and/or Astronomy

Adjunct faculty are faculty who may hold positions with employers other than WSU and are appointed temporarily to a WSU faculty position. Adjunct faculty are typically fixed-term providing instruction for traditional semester-long courses for 4.5 months (Fall and Spring Semesters). Teaching as an Adjunct faculty member focuses mostly on Instruction which can be quite varied at WSU Tri-Cities including large enrollment lower-division courses upper-division courses and courses with laboratory sessions.
Instruction may be during the day afternoon evening and/or weekend. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment beyond the semester course assignment or any assigned hourly or substitute work assignments. The rate of pay is determined based on the Instructional Mode (lecture or lab).
Successful candidates must be flexible in their ability to achieve the instructional and general responsibilities of the course assignment including the use of a broad range of learning resources and technologies. This is a part-time fixed term position. This position is overtime ineligible.
This position works on-site at the WSU Tri-Cities Campus in Richland WA.
Annual Salary: $25952.40 - $47047.50 (1.0 FTE). Salary to be pro-rated based upon course credits and type of instruction.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Masters Degree in relevant field
Demonstrated experience or potential for teaching with student centered pedagogy practices
Ability to communicate effectively with both students and colleagues in written and verbal formats
Preferred Qualifications:
Terminal Degree/Ph.D. in relevant field
Ability to use new teaching approaches that advance pedagogy of the discipline
Commitment to teaching excellence
Demonstrated record of successful teaching across a range of student demographics
Minimum of one-year experience teaching college courses in relevant area(s)

Appointment Periods: Fixed-term positions are expected to end on either December 31 2025 for the Fall 2025 Semester or May 15 2026 for the Spring 2026 Semester. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension.
