About this unit
5 Surgical is a 24-bed unit with all private rooms. We primarily care for surgical and trauma patients; these surgeries include bariatric general trauma and gynecological patients. Although our focus is surgical and trauma related we also care for other patients with medical conditions as well. We are equipped to monitor up to 8 patients on portable telemetry monitors. The Surgical Unit is a wonderful place to advance in your nursing skills to include critical thinking time management assessment and patient satisfaction. We are a talented and engaged team that is focused on patient safety and have maintained high-quality scores. Trenton is a Magnet Designated hospital with Level Two Trauma and Stroke Certification. We are proud of the commitment in shared governance as it has strengthened the relationship between staff and our leadership team.
About Trenton Hospital
This Magnet-designated facility provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for its patients and is one of four recipients of the Truven Health Advantage Award in the category of Health and Clinical Outcomes. It is home to nine university affiliated residency programs. Here you will find a Level II trauma center that is a nationally recognized heart vascular and pulmonary specialties along with other specialties like orthopedics neurosurgery and womens health.
Scope of work
Assists licensed nursing staff in providing direct patient care and helps in the environmental maintenance of the nursing unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse and within the scope of defined practice. Provides for personal care and safety needs of patients promptly under the supervision of licensed nursing staff including specific procedures and patient testing addressed in the patient plan of care. Maintains an orderly unit environment with sufficient supplies and equipment in order to facilitate staff performance of patient care. Contributes to effective communication as it related to the provision of patient care and the efficient operation needs of the unit. Facilitates the admission discharge and transfer of patients on and off unit in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Range of Pay
Range of pay between $17.31 and $20.84 based on experience.
Qualifications
High School Graduate or Equivalent Required
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Required by completion of orientation.
Previous hospital or nursing home experience Preferred
Current CNA certification Preferred
