Location:English Learner Family Involvement Program located at the Teacher Administrative Center at 3215 Cuming Street Omaha NE 68131
Reports To: Director English Learner Migrant and Refugee Education
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: Part-time / Non-exempt
Salary Schedule: Hourly part-time starting at $22.25
Position Purpose:
This position involves leading parents and young children in family literacy classes in English. The parent liaison designs and teaches lessons following the existing curriculum to engage parents and children in language literacy and numeracy and other early childhood skills (e.g. fine motor play). The focus is to assist parents who may not know how to create a rich literacy environment at home and to provide explicit instruction in effective ways to be their childs first teacher. This role also includes facilitating home-school connections and assisting families with accessing services information and resources. The parent liaison may deliver classes in person or through a remote learning platform such as Teams. This position also provides general supervision of family literacy bilingual aides who are assigned to the class to provide bilingual support and assist with learning activities.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Guide parents in basic literacy in English skills so they can recreate literacy rich learning environments in their homes.
Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machine. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Local travel may berequired.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
College degree preferred or high school diploma with evidence of teaching experience (including volunteer teaching experience).
Early childhood experience and understanding of the needs of young learners.
Ability to involve adult learners and young learners in positive learning experiences.
High levels of cross-cultural competency and communication skills.
Experience working with families from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
General technology skills for remote teaching and learning including familiarity with Microsoft applications.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a part-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska Public School and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
