Job Description

Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION.The eligible list resulting from this examination willcancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.

Supplemental Questionnaire:A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit the Application or Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires will only be accepted online.

DESCRIPTION

THE AGENCY

The mission of the Office of the County Counsel is to provide competent efficient and cost-effective legal representation and advice thus advancing and protecting the programs and financial resources of the County its officers departments boards commissions districts and courts

Under general supervision performs a variety of average to complex clerical assignments requiring the exercise of considerable initiative and judgment within the framework of the policies and procedures of the Office of the County Counsel; and performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:


Modern office practices and procedures including business and legal correspondence filing and standard office equipment operations.
Business and legal data processing principles and the use of word processing or personal computer equipment.
Business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials.
Correct English usage including spelling grammar and punctuation.
Record keeping principles and practices.
General legal terminology.

Ability to:

Learn to read and understand legal and court documents and extract relevant information.
Perform detailed and complex legal office work accurately.
Compose routine correspondence from brief instructions.
Operate standard office equipment including a word processor computer terminal printer fax machine copier and telephone.
Use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines.
Prioritize work and coordinate several different activities.
Deal tactfully and effectively with a variety of individuals.
Organize and maintain accurate files and records.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

The examination will consist of the following steps:

  1. A review of applicants application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
  2. A review of candidates Supplemental Questionnaires to determine the best qualified. Those candidates considered the best qualified will move on to the final step in the examination process.
  3. An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

      Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of this recruitment.
