Assistant Superintendent
Assistant Superintendents are a key member of the Senior Leadership Team in Surrey and we are excited to seek applications from inspiring innovative and passionate leaders to join our team. Reporting to the Superintendent/CEO the Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for a geographical area of schools in addition to holding other significant leadership portfolios. Working with five other Assistant Superintendents and a Deputy Superintendent the successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues in leading and supporting our vision for students which is articulated in Learning by Design .
Surrey is British Columbias fastest-growing community and our 130 schools provide quality education to over 83000 students and we are supported by 13000 staff. Surrey Schools reside on the traditional unceded and shared territories of Coast Salish peoples: The qcy - Katzie the qa:n n - Kwantlen and the SEMYOME - Semiahmoo First Nations; the stewards of this land since time immemorial. Multiculturalism is our norm with over 200 languages spoken in our community and we also serve the single largest population of Indigenous students in BC. Surrey has a deep and rich culture of innovation and inquiry and while we serve a large urban centre we also have small schools in agricultural areas. We work daily to make a large place seem small by placing value on relationships and connections.
The Assistant Superintendents work includes:
Supporting schools in educational transformation to meet the needs of todays learners and create a safe student-centered learning environment;
Demonstrating instructional leadership by working closely with principals and vice-principals as the leads in their schools;
Advancing innovative practice and scheduling to ensure students are prepared for a changing post-secondary and work environment;
Building system-wide capacity in curriculum instruction assessment and social emotional learning;
Fulfilling the school districts commitment to truth and reconciliation equity and inclusion;
Modeling mentoring and activating effective leadership in a range of settings;
Nurturing a professional work culture based on high energy commitment collaboration and teamwork; and
Engaging with diverse groups inspiring public trust and confidence in our schools and in public education.
Applicants will have a Masters degree and will possess or be eligible for a British Columbia Teaching Certificate. The ideal candidate has a broad range of educational leadership experience with examples of district leadership as an Assistant Superintendent Director of Instruction District Principal or through extensive district committee experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills sound judgement and decision-making systems awareness and change leadership grounded in inquiry reflection and courage. They bring a highly collaborative nature and embody a team-oriented philosophy that appreciates and prioritizes shared purpose and collective success.

The salary range for this position is $226188 - $251320. Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and internal equity considerations.
