The objective of this course is to present to students enrolled in the course-based LLM program an overview of the Canadian legal systems. This course will help students become familiar with the basic concepts of the Canadian legal systems civil law and common law the legal research and writing norms as well as the expectations of Canadian academic communities. In this seminar student will have to the opportunity to make a presentation and write an essay on a legal issue.

Requirements:

The Common Law Section is seeking candidates who have the expertise skills vision and energy to reinforce uOttawas position as a leader in graduate education in law. An LL.B. J.D. or equivalent is required for this position. A PhD in law is preferred but not essential. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario or equivalent in good standing is preferred. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in legal research and writing at the graduate level knowledge mobilization and interdisciplinary research and the expectations of the Canadian academic communities. Familiarity with basic concepts of the Canadian legal systems civil law and common law is also required. The successful candidate must also have prior teaching experience in those areas and teaching experience at the graduate level.

The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements where the candidates selection would be beneficial to the program the course the students or for a related reason.

The candidate may be required to teach this course either online in-person or hybrid mode at the discretion of the Faculty and in accordance with public health guidelines.

An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
