Who we are

Zus is a shared health data platform designed to accelerate healthcare data interoperability by providing easy-to-use patient data via API embedded components and direct EHR integrations. Founded in 2021 by Jonathan Bush co-founder and former CEO of athenahealth Zus partners with HIEs and other data networks to aggregate patient clinical history and then translates that history into user-friendly information at the point of care. Zuss mission is to catalyze healthcares greatest inventors by maximizing the value of patient insights - so that they can build up not around.

What were looking for:

We are seeking an experienced leader to head and expand our AI Innovation team. This team leverages the latest AI/ML tools to develop novel products and capabilities for healthcare providers. The successful candidate will be instrumental in defining our AI strategy and product innovation. This position requires close cross-functional collaboration with product engineering and healthcare domain specialists to implement intelligent features that enhance care delivery for providers at both individual patient and population health levels.

In addition to providing high-level leadership you will lead by example: providing technical direction mentoring data scientists and engineers and contributing to the development deployment and optimization of novel features across our platform.

As part of our team you will

    • Lead and mentor a high-performing AI innovation team.
    • Partner with product managers engineers and healthcare providers to identify high-impact opportunities. Rapidly prototype and iterate on AI-driven features to deliver real-world value.
    • Design train and fine-tune machine learning models particularly LLMs to support search summarization clinical reasoning and other core use cases.
    • Lead the development of scalable and automated infrastructure for feature deployment improvement and monitoring. Own end-to-end model lifecycle in a production environment.
    • Collaborate with data engineers to create robust scalable data pipelines and ensure the quality integrity and accessibility of data for training and evaluation.
    • Stay on the cutting edge of AI particularly in NLP and LLM research. Translate breakthroughs into practical scalable solutions.
    • Act as a key technical leader across engineering product and design teams. Translate complex capabilities into user-first features.

Youre a good fit because

    • 5 years of experience in machine learning and AI with 2 years in a technical leadership or people management role.
    • Proven experience developing novel features with advanced technologies and deploying them in real-world applications.
    • Strong understanding of MLOps tools workflows and production AI systems.
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization (Docker Kubernetes).
    • Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) including embeddings retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and prompt engineering.
    • Demonstrated success delivering AI products in collaborative cross-functional environmentshealthcare experience is a plus.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • BS or higher in a technical field; MS or PhD is a plus.

$200000 - $240000 a year
Were a remote first company with a distributed team. However this team is located in the Boston area therefore this person should be able to come to Boston regularly. Were flexible on what days and what that cadence looks like. Were located at 1 Lincoln St.
