Job Description

Overview of the Post

Job Overview:
The Headteacher/Head of School is the strategic and operational leader responsible for the overall direction development and day-to-day management of the school. This leadership role is pivotal in shaping a culture of excellence fostering academic achievement and nurturing the wellbeing of every member of the school community.

Upholding and promoting the shared values and high standards of WRAP the Head of School is expected to lead by example in embodying the vision and ethos of the organisation. Working closely with the Directors the Head of School ensures quality assurance continuous school improvement and the effective sharing of best practice across the wider organisation.

The role requires a commitment to maintaining a safe inclusive and purposeful learning environment and to fostering strong relationships with pupils staff parents and external stakeholders. In addition to the responsibilities outlined below the Head of School is expected to demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in undertaking any other reasonable duties as directed by the Directors in line with the expectations of a senior leadership role.

Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership

Develop articulate and implement a clear and ambitious vision for the school in collaboration with governors staff and other stakeholders.

Lead the strategic planning process to ensure the schools continuous improvement and alignment with WRAPs overarching goals.

Monitor national education trends and policy changes ensuring the school remains compliant relevant and forward-thinking.

Represent the school professionally and confidently in local and national forums maintaining and enhancing its reputation for excellence.

2. Teaching Learning and Curriculum

Lead the design and implementation of a broad balanced and inclusive curriculum that reflects the diverse needs of learners and prepares them for the future.

Promote a culture of high expectations and ensure consistent high-quality teaching across all key stages.

Use data effectively to drive pupil progress and attainment identifying and addressing areas of underperformance through timely intervention.

Encourage innovation in pedagogy and assessment supporting staff in the adoption of evidence-based teaching practices.

3. Safeguarding and Pupil Welfare

Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or provide oversight and support to the appointed DSL to ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils.

Ensure all statutory requirements in relation to safeguarding are met including policy compliance staff training and effective record-keeping.

Promote and model positive behaviour resilience and personal development throughout the school community.

Foster a safe inclusive and nurturing school environment where every pupil feels valued and supported.

4. Staff Leadership and Development

Recruit retain and develop a skilled and motivated staff team committed to the schools values and goals.

Provide clear leadership direction and support to staff at all levels fostering a culture of trust collaboration and accountability.

Implement robust performance management systems that drive professional growth and continuous improvement.

Encourage distributed leadership promoting staff autonomy and responsibility where appropriate.

5. Operational and Financial Management

Work closely with the bursar or finance team to plan manage and monitor the schools budget effectively and responsibly.

Ensure the efficient use of resources and compliance with financial procurement and administrative policies.

Oversee the day-to-day operational functions of the school including site management health and safety and risk assessment.

Ensure compliance with legal regulatory and reporting obligations.

6. Governance and Regulatory Compliance

Provide the governing body with clear accurate and timely information on school performance improvement priorities and key strategic issues.

Ensure the school meets all statutory and regulatory obligations including those relating to SEND equality and diversity data protection (GDPR) and safeguarding.

Prepare for and engage with inspections and audits including Ofsted and other external bodies ensuring readiness and responsiveness.

7. Community and Stakeholder Engagement

Build strong positive relationships with parents carers and the wider community.

Ensure effective communication between the school and home promoting transparency partnership and shared responsibility.

Act as a key ambassador for the school in external relations including marketing partnerships and admissions activities.

Lead outreach and engagement initiatives that strengthen the schools community presence and impact.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Substantial leadership experience such as serving successfully as a Deputy Head or Headteacher

Proven track record of raising standards improving teaching and learning and delivering strong pupil outcomes

Skills and Personal Attributes

Inspirational leadership with the ability to articulate and deliver a clear vision for school improvement

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and motivate both staff and pupils

Strong analytical and decision-making abilities underpinned by strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities

In-depth understanding of curriculum design assessment educational research and inspection frameworks

Capacity to work under pressure while maintaining integrity focus and emotional intelligence

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) or equivalent leadership qualification

Experience working in secondary education settings

Familiarity with the regulatory requirements and operational nuances of both the independent and maintained school sectors

About Wirral WRAP School

The School is an independent 38 week specialist day provision for boys and girls for students aged between 11 and 16 with social emotional and mental health difficulties set in Beechwood Wirral. We are an aspirational exciting and innovative school with a strong desire to develop both students and staff.

We are a friendly school where staff are supportive of each other inside and outside of the classroom. We pride ourselves in ensuring all members of staff including our support staff have access to regular training. All our members of staff attend regular training on child protection; mental health and multi-agency working. All staff access a wide range of training on areas of SEN such as Autism attachment and ADHD.
