Job Description

This position serves as the primary technician responsible for the preparation of sterile chemotherapeutic and other hazardous compounds in Oncology Pharmacy. They play a critical role in supporting the Oncology Pharmacy team by managing inventory ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and serving as a subject matter expert in oncology pharmacy operations. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with advanced knowledge of oncology medications and protocols as well as strong organizational and communication skills.

Education

HS Diploma or equivalent required

Licensure/Certification

Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia required.

National Certification preferred

Experience

Relevant experience in a hospital pharmacy that supports oncology services

Experience with use of office software computer applications and keyboarding required.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Serves as the lead technician responsible for the preparation of sterile chemotherapeutic and other hazardous compounds in compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards. Ensures aseptic technique proper handling of hazardous drugs and adherence to all safety and regulatory protocols. Maintains accurate documentation and collaborates with pharmacists to support patient-specific compounding needs.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements including USP <797> and USP <800> standards for handling hazardous drugs. Conduct compliance audits and prepare reports for internal and external reviews.
  • Oversee the procurement of oncology medications ensuring timely and accurate purchasing to support patient care needs. Establish and maintain appropriate par levels for oncological medication to prevent shortages and minimize waste. Conduct inventory reviews to identify trends and adjust par levels as needed.
  • Stay updated on changes in oncology pharmacy regulations and implement necessary operational adjustments.
  • Assist in training new team members and conducting educational sessions on oncology pharmacy practices. Serve as a resource for oncology pharmacy team members providing guidance on medication handling preparation and storage.
  • Perform other functions as determined by the Director of Pharmacy Services or their supervisor
