Human Resource Generalist (System & Compliance)

Job Summary:

Reporting to The Director of Human Resources the Human Resource Generalist will facilitate the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department specializing in HRIS System Operations & Employee Compliance. The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting the Human Resources function by ensuring institutional compliance with employment laws and regulations assisting with policy development and training and providing support to faculty staff and student employees. This role serves as key support to the Director of Human Resources and leadership in navigating employment challenges in alignment with Charleston Southern Universitys mission and values. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Compliance and Policy Administration:

  • Maintain and update HR policies handbooks and procedures to ensure compliance with federal state and local regulations.
  • Complete all regulatory audits including non-discrimination testing Secure 2.0 IPEDS reporting and other DOE and government required audits.
  • Monitor multi-state compliance requirements related to remote work faculty/staff residency and student employment.
  • Support compliance with EEOC FLSA DOL FMLA ADA Title IX and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits of personnel files contracts benefits documentation and I-9 records.
  • Serve as support for compliance-related questions and ensure proactive risk mitigation.
  • Process annual and 5-year employee background and audit background check documentation
  • Reviews tracks and documents compliance with electronic I-9s.
  • Maintains compliance with federal state and local employment laws and regulations and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

Training and Development:

  • Reviews tracks and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training through IOA and other systems continuing education and work assessments. This may include safety training anti-harassment training professional licensure and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends best practices regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources talent management and employment law.

General HR Support:

  • Provide backup support for student employment operations as needed.
  • Assist with special HR projects process improvements and data reporting.
  • Serve as an HR representative on institutional committees or task forces as assigned.
  • Support HR Team with routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation benefits and leave; performance and talent management; productivity recognition and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organizations facilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field required. Education exceptions may be made with equivalent HR relative higher education and/or HRIS Paycom experience.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • At least three years of human resources experience required; five years preferred with a strong focus on compliance systems or higher education HR.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws including FMLA ADA Title VII Title IX FLSA and EEO regulations.
  • Experience with HRIS Paycom is highly desired.
  • SHRM-CP is a plus.
