The expected starting base salary for this position is $83528 - 88336 annually depending on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience. Once hired you will progress through a wider salary range over time as you continue to develop job knowledge skills and competencies for the role.

Our office is closed for the 11 statutory holidays in B.C. as well as Easter Monday and Boxing Day.

What youll be doing


The DA is responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex datasets to provide actionable insights to the business. This includes redesigning and rebuilding existing reports developing new analytical tools and supporting the data team in operational tasks. The DA works closely with data engineers business analysts and business stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of reporting and analytics solutions.

The DA also supports the data governance and data quality strategies by maintaining artifacts such as data dictionaries lineage and business rules. This role requires a strong understanding of SQL Power BI and Microsoft Fabric along with the ability to adapt to new technologies and processes.

Internally the DA works closely with the Operations Department and other business users within BCCNM.

Externally the DA works with external stakeholders of the College which may include other consulting firms Health Regulators the Ministry of Health and other agencies or bodies in the health care industry.

Together with Data Team the work of the Data Analyst helps to promote organizational and operational effectiveness and promotes BCCNMs information governance by ensuring data accuracy quality and integrity.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. In consultation with the Manager Business Intelligence and Data contributes to and advocates for the management of data as a key strategic asset.
  2. Work together with data engineers data analysts business analysts business SMEs records analysts and privacy analysts to understand data needs and create effective secure data workflows.
  3. Participate in reporting requirements sessions with product owners data stewards and SMEs to gather and document business needs.
  4. Contribute to design activities including identifying data attributes in source systems defining transformation rules and supporting data modeling efforts.
  5. Collaborate with the data team to ensure the designed solutions align with the overall data architecture and business goals.
  6. Support the design implementation and maintenance of data pipelines for data ingestion processing and transformation in Microsoft Azure Cloud.
  7. Utilize Azure Data Factory SSIS or comparable technologies to create and maintain ETL (Extract Transform Load) operations.
  8. Assist in creating and maintaining data storage solutions including Azure SQL Database Azure Data Lake and/or Azure Blob Storage.
  9. Develop new reports and dashboards to meet business requirements ensuring they are optimized for performance usability and scalability.
  10. Support the data team in operational tasks including monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines and reports built in Power BI.
  11. Assist in maintaining and updating Power BI workspaces roles and access permissions.
  12. Collaborate with the data team to implement and enforce data governance policies.
  13. Perform data quality checks build data quality dashboards and ensure data integrity across systems.
  14. Document data processes report logic and data lineage.
  15. Implement data validation and cleansing procedures to ensure the quality integrity and dependability of the data.
  16. Monitor and resolve data pipeline problems to ensure consistency and availability of the data.
  17. Identify opportunities to improve data processes reporting tools and analytical capabilities.
  18. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data analysis and visualization.
  19. Ensure compliance with data governance privacy and security policies.
  20. Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning related to Indigenous cultural safety and humility to constructively disrupt Indigenous-specific racism in BCs healthcare system.
  21. Foster and maintain an organizational culture that promotes equity diversity inclusion mutual respect teamwork and service excellence.

      Your education & skills

      • A bachelors degree in computer science Information Systems Data Analytics or another quantitative field plus relevant experience.
      • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience working with relational databases query authoring (SQL) and familiarity with a variety of databases.
      • Proven experience in report development using Power BI SSRS and Excel.
      • Advanced knowledge of SQL for data querying manipulation and analysis.
      • Proficiency in Power BI (DAX data modeling visualization best practices) and experience in setting up and managing Power BI workspaces and access controls.
      • Familiarity with data visualization best practices and design principles.
      • Experience with ETL (Extract Transform Load) processes using Azure Data platform Microsoft Fabric or similar technologies.
      • Knowledge of data warehouse and data mart design implementation and maintenance using Microsoft Azure Data Platform (e.g. Azure Synapse Azure SQL Database Azure Data Lake).
      • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is considered a nice-to-have.
      • Strong analytical skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets.
      • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
      • A successful history of manipulating processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
      • Demonstrated knowledge and application of relevant legislation ethical and legal obligations and guidelines relating to privacy confidentiality and security of information.
      • Experience supporting data governance and data quality initiatives including maintaining data dictionaries lineage and business rules.
      • Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to use audience-appropriate communication and language to present information analyze results and convey concepts.
      • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including data engineers business analysts and business stakeholders.
      • Ability to plan prioritize and manage workload within a time-sensitive environment.
      • Ability to work outside of regular work hours on occasion to ensure the smooth functioning of related systems and deliverables.
      • Knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts including social economic political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities.
      • Familiarity with Indigenous-specific anti-racism and accompanying reports (e.g. The Truth & Reconciliation Commissions 94 Calls to Action (2015) the In Plain Sight Report (2020) and Reclaiming Power and Places Calls for Justice (2019)) is an asset.
      • Demonstrated understanding of equity diversity inclusion and cultural humility as they apply to healthcare is an asset.
