TITLE: Loan Servicing and Underwriting Specialist REPORTS TO: AVP Loan Support
Position Summary The Loan Servicing and Underwriting Specialist is a hybrid role responsible for managing various aspects of loan servicing and underwriting to ensure compliance accuracy and member satisfaction. This position requires a high level of attention to detail strong organizational skills and excellent communication. The individual will be responsible for processing and underwriting consumer home equity and mortgage loans while maintaining escrow accounts ensuring regulatory compliance and providing superior member service.
Primary Responsibilities
Loan Servicing:
- Monitor and maintain escrow accounts including property and flood insurance and ensure timely payment of property taxes.
- Prepare and review annual escrow analyses updating member records as necessary.
- Book and fund mortgage loans and home equity loans into the core platform.
- Prepare file and record Deed of Release documents for paid-off loans.
- Review scan and file completed loan documents and ensure compliance with record retention policies.
- Address loan file maintenance requests and ensure data accuracy.
- Monitor and maintain HMDA records for compliance and accuracy.
Underwriting:
- Review loan applications credit reports and supporting documents for completeness and compliance with loan policies and guidelines.
- Verify borrower information including employment history income and creditworthiness.
- Underwrite loans in accordance with Credit Union policy ensuring risk mitigation and adherence to federal and state regulations.
- Address and resolve discrepancies in loan files to maintain quality control.
- Prepare accurate loan documents and fund loans in a timely and compliant manner.
- Conduct quality control reviews to identify and correct errors prior to final approval.
Member and Team Interaction:
- Provide timely updates to members and lenders regarding the status of loan applications and escrow accounts.
- Act as a resource for associates answering questions and assisting with loan servicing or underwriting tasks as needed.
- Create and maintain detailed procedure guides for loan servicing and underwriting functions.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in Credit Union projects and initiatives to enhance processes and member experience.
- Promote and exemplify the Credit Unions Vision Mission and Core Values.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Finance Business or a related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in loan servicing or underwriting with a strong understanding of consumer and mortgage lending.
- Equivalent work experience may substitute for educational requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit stand and walk for extended periods.
- Regularly lift and move 20-35 pounds; occasionally up to 80 pounds.
Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of consumer and mortgage loan products and services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a member-focused mindset.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and loan origination software; experience with core processing platforms is a plus.
- Self-motivated professional and able to handle confidential information effectively.
