Job Description

Job Title: Advanced Academic Services (AAS) Director

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Department: Curriculum and Instruction

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction

Approved by: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

Direct the districts program for gifted and talented students. Collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide educational opportunities for gifted and talented students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree

Masters Degree in Education Administration (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree

Three years experience as a gifted and talented teacher

At least three years of administrative experience preferred

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATION:

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with endorsement in gifted and talented education

Certified T-TESS Appraiser (Preferred)

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide program
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of gifted and talented students
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management

  1. Implement procedures and direct the process to identify gifted and talented students at all grade levels districtwide including review of student data and testing of students.
  2. Develop and revise gifted and talented curriculum.
  3. Assist teachers to develop and provide gifted and talented students with alternative course work through curriculum modification acceleration etc.
  4. Develop and conduct or arrange for staff development sessions including sessions on delivery of instruction enriched learning in classroom settings and methods for identifying gifted and talented students.
  5. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the gifted and talented program and implement changes based on the findings.

Consultation

  1. Provide resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals.
  2. Consult with parents administrators counselors teachers community agencies and other relevant individuals regarding gifted and talented students.
  3. Plan and conduct parent meetings including parent advisory committee meetings.

Budget and Inventory

  1. Administer the gifted and talented budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that gifted and talented funds are managed wisely.
  2. Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  3. Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.

Policy Reports and Law

  1. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  2. Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and the local board policy.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  3. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointment
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators teachers students parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit occasionally walk and stand talk or hear; travel from one building to another or to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Light to moderate lifting is required.

This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints interacting with the public and staff and enduring irregular or extended work hours.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Some driving is required as the employee must be able to travel from building to building.
