Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Dean and Director the Assistant Director of Staff Development and Training is responsible for the assessment and identification of the colleges training and development needs. The Assistant Director of Staff Development and Training actively searches provides designs and implements effective methods for enhancing professional learning employee performance statewide impact and compliance.

This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans organizes and leads training programs ensuring proper execution at all levels.

  • Oversees the planning prioritization and development of new training programs and initiatives guaranteeing that these programs and initiatives are consistent with the overall strategies objectives and needs for the plan of work for extension and research personnel as it relates to the universitys land-grant mission.

  • Assesses and conducts analyses to identify organizational training and development needs.

  • Responds to unit department and/or programs employee development needs and identifies/facilitates solutions toward improved skills development and new learning.

  • Develops implements and/or delivers departmental training and/or professional development opportunities to enhance customer service and program impact.

  • Coordinates recruitment and placement of training program participants and market training to employees and supervisors to encourage participation.

  • Conducts research approves and makes further recommendations for appropriate learning management systems and databases.

  • Establishes a framework for conducting online training and for a learning management system to track in-service training from the planning stages through individual training records

  • Evaluates and conducts follow-up studies/surveys on all completed training programs in order to evaluate and measure results program effectiveness and draw reports for leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with other units to enhance and improve established initiatives such as new employee on-boarding leadership development and technical workshops.

  • Collaborates and partners with other agency and TAMUS professional development employees to accomplish shared goals.

  • Provides oversight of Employee Performance Evaluation Systems including training of Department Heads Regional Staff and County Directors in conducting effective performance appraisals.

  • Develops reports and analyses of performance review scores.

  • Provides evaluation of current organizational structure with leadership based on needs assessment and plans develops and/or assists in the implementation of organizational changes/restructure.

  • Works with management and leadership to provide guidance with developing reclassification compensation and employee and/or position changes that will best support the programs and employee development.

  • Provides general oversight for compliance with National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) guidelines.

  • Develops and implement comprehensive training programs to comply with NIFA requirements.

  • Participates in ongoing civil rights meeting with U.S. Department of Agriculture and other region partners.

  • Partners with applicable university offices to ensure compliance with the Office of Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (OASCR) and NIFA Title IX Title VI and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) reporting requirements. Collaborates with centralized offices such as University Compliance Human Resources Equal Opportunity Research Administration Sponsored Programs and etc. as needed.

  • Coordinates the annual Joint Research Extension Conference and other statewide extension staff development efforts to include Coming Together for Racial Understanding. Explores and implements an Extension Mentoring Program and Internship Program.

  • Serves on various committees and represents the department at various state and national associations and conferences

  • Stays up to date with the latest instructional technologies through the establishment of personal networks attendance of workshops/professional development opportunities reviewing of professional publications and participation in professional industry associations to introduce the latest and most applicable trends in training and development for addition to the overall strategy constantly maintaining and updating training programs within the college.

  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree.

  • Six years of related experience.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: word processing spreadsheets databases and presentation applications (PowerPoint)

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills utilized to provide exceptional customer service.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Masters Degree in Business Organizational Development or Human Resource Management
