USD School of Law is one of the 84 law schools elected to the Order of the Coif a national honor society for law school graduates. Detailed Description:

The Law Student Affairs Specialist reports directly to the Director for Student Life and Inclusion and is responsible for contributing to a positive student experience by providing continuity and consistency through the day-to-day management of law student organizations at USD and supporting administrative processes within the Law Student Affairs department. The Law Student Affairs Specialist works in a collaborative relationship with all law school students faculty administrative offices and university offices. This position requires occasional attendance at on and off campus events during and outside normal business hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement all aspects of day-to-day law student organization activities and extracurricular activities

  • Serve as primary contact between the Office for Law Student Affairs and all USD registered Law Student Organizations and the Student Bar Association (SBA) and advise on policies and procedures
  • Conduct training on various university and school of law rules and policies regarding all student organization activities and monitor student organization compliance.
  • Manage activities and calendars between and promote collaboration amongst law student organizations and law school administration.
  • Maintain the USD Law Student Organizations Handbook.
  • Manage tracking of law student organizations on-campus accounts and budgets.
  • Provide process and reimbursement training for law student leaders and assist them with obtaining reimbursements through Agency accounts. Maintain accurate tracking of budgets and reconcile accounts.
  • Assist law student organizations with logistics as liaison for events as needed.
  • Represent the Office for Law Student Affairs at SBA meetings and other SBA-sponsored events.
  • Attend certain law student organization functions academic and social as a representative of the Office for Law Student Affairs.
  • Work with the Director for Student Life and Inclusion to support diversity equity and inclusion programming amongst law student organizations.
  • Identify and escalate student issues that require consideration at a higher level in a timely manner.
  • Use positive conflict resolution strategies to manage law student organization issues and coach student leaders in effectively running their organizations.
Law Student Affairs Communications
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director support the overall student communications strategy for the Law Student Affairs team including preparing weekly Sidebar newsletter.
  • Coordinate the Law Student Affairs social media accounts including content creation.
  • Update the Law Student Affairs webpages and email campaigns from new student engagement to graduation.
Law Student Onboarding
  • Coordinate student onboarding (for fall spring and summer semesters) by liaising with the Admissions and the Registrar tracking confirmed students communicating onboarding information to them ensuring required paperwork is signed comply with student health insurance requirements and connecting them with academic advisors as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate student lists on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordinate preparation and updating of Canvas orientation course.
Perform Administrative Duties
  • Perform administrative duties as necessary including effectively tracking managing event budgets and costs responding promptly to emails and phone calls supporting events such as orientation and commencement and other events as assigned..
  • Backstop the Law Student Affairs reception desk and respond to general student queries as necessary.
  • Support day-to-day operation within the Law Student Affairs office including supervising and training student staff and temporary assistance stepping into support workflow and office functioning as needed.
  • Perform other duties or tasks as assigned.

Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Minimum of two-three years relevant professional experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within student affairs preferred.
  • Experience working in the legal field or law school setting is preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce Zoom social media and web content development strongly preferred.

Performance Expectations- Knowledge Skills andAbilities:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Office Suite required including strong skills maintaining spreadsheets and databases preparing presentations and documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to set boundaries and enforce policies with diplomacy and tact is critical.
  • Ability to handle confidential information exhibit good judgment and exemplify appropriate customer service in working with students faculty and all levels of university staff and officials.
  • Proven cultural competencies and ability to work with and support students with diverse personal backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Ability to identify issues for escalation in a timely manner.
  • Ability to take initiative in managing projects and ability to develop and keep to timelines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be proactive with respect to suggestions for improving all aspects of programming.
Posting Salary:

$27.00-30.50 per hour; Excellent Benefits
