Job Description

ASSYST is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Structured Cabling Infrastructure Assessor to perform comprehensive evaluations of telecommunications rooms structured cabling systems and related infrastructure across client-owned and leased facilities. This role is integral to the planning and execution of a large-scale re-wiring initiative and will directly inform future infrastructure design and implementation strategies.

The ideal candidate will conduct structured cabling audits accurately document site conditions and prepare detailed floor plans rack elevation diagrams technical reports and photographic documentation. This is a field-based hands-on position requiring demonstrated expertise in structured cabling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured cabling assessments at approximately 233 Montgomery County facilities.
  • Survey and document all Telecommunications Rooms (TRs) including Main Distribution Frames (MDFs) and Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs).
  • Assess and record the following:
  1. Horizontal and backbone cabling (fiber optic and copper)
  2. Pathway types (e.g. cable tray conduit J-hooks)
  3. Ceiling conditions (drop hard lid open/exposed)
  4. Presence and condition of firestopping at cable penetrations
  5. Electrical service and HVAC provisions within TRs
  6. Grounding and bonding systems following TIA-607-D
  7. Identify and record workspace layouts including private offices cubicles and open areas.
  • Develop comprehensive CAD drawings reflecting:
  • TR and equipment room locations
  1. Backbone cabling routes
  2. Telecom outlet quantities per floor including exact drop locations
  3. Cubicle and office layouts (as-built)
  4. Generate rack elevation diagrams and a complete written site audit report.
  5. Capture and organize labeled photographic documentation of all relevant infrastructure.
  • Coordinate on-site access and scheduling with the TEBS Task Manager and representatives from user departments.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • One or more years of experience in structured cabling low-voltage systems or telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other CAD software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to understand and contribute to technical drawings and infrastructure layouts.
  • Strong communication documentation and organizational skills.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation for travel to multiple County sites.
  • Must successfully pass a background check and comply with all County security protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BICSI Certification (at least one of the following):
  1. Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  2. Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)
  3. BICSI Technician (TECH)
  4. Previous experience working in government public safety or large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of current TIA/EIA NEC and BICSI industry standards and codes.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting structured cabling assessments or infrastructure audits.
  • Possession of OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
