About the position

This position is required to work as part of a technical team which supports (primarily) Teaching/Learning activities along with research activities within the Science disciplines on the Bundoora Campus. Reporting to the Deputy Director Facilities and Technical Services this position has responsibility for the following:

  • day to day management of a technical team supporting the Science delivery programs with undergraduate laboratory teaching from a range of disciplines across the School of Science Agriculture Biomedicine and Environment (SABE) at the Bundoora campus
  • day to day support for the FTS staff working in the SABE precinct
  • Stakeholder management with the school and other divisions of the University
  • Participation with the emergency response programs including after-hours call out
  • It is an essential requirement to support classes as timetabled; flexibility may be required for this role as some classes start at 8am and some finish at 6pm.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with facility (laboratory) management.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of scientific equipment and laboratory infrastructure its use maintenance and management.
  • Sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations procedures and practices as applied to high-risk laboratory settings.
  • Proficiency in computer software packages such as Word Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience and understanding of chemical use and safety in laboratory settings.
  • Proficient with leading team meetings and representing FTS within stakeholder meetings.
  • Proven experience and success in managing staff performance and development.
