JOB SUMMARY: The purpose is to improve student literacy outcomes through collaboration with district and school leadership data-driven decision making and coaching and professional development of teachers on evidence-based intervention reading programs and instructional strategies. This is a grant funded position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level and/or secondary level.
- Must be eligible for Maryland State Teacher Certification.
- A valid Maryland certificate as a Reading Specialist and/or a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Reading.
- Knowledge of current research on the Science of Reading and best practices in literacy assessments curriculum and instruction.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership in the teaching of elementary reading and or secondary English Language Arts (ELA) including knowledge of current ELA standards methodologies and instructional reading interventions.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership of teacher teams including use of data protocols.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing and delivering professional learning.
- Proficient technology skills including for presentations data analysis and reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages activities and evaluation measures for literacy initiatives associated with the Maryland Read and Lead Comprehensive Literacy Grant and CCPS Literacy Plan.
- Monitors tiered reading intervention programs through Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Responsibilities may include but are not limited to organizing scheduling maintaining and securing materials monitoring implementation and teacher paperwork intervention coaching as well as school and county leadership with reading intervention professional development.
- Collaborates with school teams during the review and evaluation of student achievement information (including diagnostic screeners) in order to place students in appropriate reading interventions.
- Monitors the implementation of county reading interventions with fidelity; Collaborates with Supervisors of ELA Supervisor of Special Education Literacy Coaches/Teacher Specialists and Reading Intervention Teachers to develop and deliver professional learning to support teachers that is in alignment with the Maryland Professional Development Standards.
- Provides professional development for staff on curricular resources foundational literacy skills differentiated instruction and reading interventions.
- Maintains up-to-date records related to district/school/student progress within the appropriate platform.
- Consistently exhibits a positive attitude a sense of efficacy and a commitment to Caroline County Public Schools when collaborating within and outside of the school community.
- Maintains professional work habits.
- Perform other duties as required by the Supervisors of Instruction.
PAY & HOURS: This position is an 11-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education Teacher Salary Scale. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on experience skills and abilities related to this position.
