Job Description

This position is accountable for planning organizing coordinating and directing all EMS services. This position also maintains accountability and responsibility for compliance to all internal and external CCH policies/procedures; Federal State and Local codes regulations and standards related to emergency and trauma services.

Clinical Operations Management

  • Plans organizes coordinates and directs ambulance department functions and activities to achieve ongoing objectives.
  • Establish and maintain EMS schedule assuring all shifts are compliant with minimal staffing policies.
  • Functions clinically when necessary.
  • Work with maintenance department to upkeep and maintain records of scheduled and as needed maintenance for the ambulances.
  • Prepares and is responsible for state ambulance surveys.
  • Completes performance evaluations coaches and disciplines EMS staff performance as needed.
  • Establishes implements reviews and consults with appropriate disciplines to maintain updated EMS protocols and procedures current with practice and literature.
  • Interprets hospital and department policies and procedures to department staff patients medical staff public and other departments as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ongoing clinical competency programs with EMS providers.
  • Accountable for maintaining and sharing current resources and literature related to quality of care and patient experience with all emergency services staff.
  • Identifies addresses resolves and responds to issues through cooperation and teamwork with other departments.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Provides adequate information for billing of services as needed.
  • May assist in planning and attending of community events
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of potential safety legal and liability issues in regards to ambulance closely with related local and statewide agencies as relates to EMS
  • Demonstrates ability to complete data analysis.
  • Assist in planning and providing community education to local EMS partners
  • Pediatric Trauma Coordinator functions for Clarke County Hospital Ambulance Service
  • Continually demonstrates commitment to improving care processes and services in regards to EMS.
  • Demonstrates creative forward and critical thinking skills
  • Actively participates in team oriented decision-making process and is a team player willing to be flexible and open to others ideas.
  • Demonstrates continued improvements in department specific Patient Experience Surveys and Initiatives.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of potential safety legal and liability issues in regards to ambulance services.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Emergency Services Manager/CNO.

Quality Improvement

  • Continually demonstrates commitment to improving care processes and services
  • Completes ongoing quality monitoring and improvement activities effectively resolving identified issues in a timely manner.
  • Actively works with Medical Director to develop standards of care benchmark monitoring and documentation of Ambulance services.

Compliance

  • Consistently demonstrates compliance to all regulatory requirements as outlined by the Iowa Department of Public Health EMS bureau.
  • Establishes and monitors compliance with procedures standards and protocols for continuity of patient care and good clinical practice.
  • Collaborates with Trauma Nurse Coordinator in the development and maintenance of trauma specific policies data collection and quality improvement activities to maintain compliance with the Iowa Department of Public Health statewide Trauma Systems regulations as related to EMS.

Patient Experience

  • Assists Emergency Services Manager in implementation monitoring and evaluation of patient experience initiatives

Basic Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA DIA DNV OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of EMS. Preferred: 1 year of manager/related experience

Experience: 2 years clinical experience in both ambulance and hospital environment. Preferred: Proficient in using word excel

License(s)/Certification(s): Current paramedic certification. Valid Drivers license. Obtain and maintain BLS ACLS PALS certifications within 1 year of employment. Preferred: EMS instructor certification. BLS ACLS PALS instructor certifications.

Shifts & Schedules: Variable - 72 hours per pay period

On-Call: 12-24 hours per pay period as needed

Holidays: Every other holiday as needed.

Weekends: Every 3rd weekend as needed
