    Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate school counseling program.

    SUMMARY:

    District 113 School Counseling Interns are members of a highly professional and invested team of student service personnel. A District 113 Counseling Intern must demonstrate a keen awareness of and sensitivity to the issues facing young people and their families and understand implications for education of students with academic social and/or emotional challenges. To be successful in this role School Counseling Interns must be able to function as members of a team and work collaboratively with department colleagues deans faculty and other support staff as they develop working alliances with students and families.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate school counseling program.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

    The District 113 Counseling Interns responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    District and Building-Wide
    • Participate in the building-wide intervention and teaming process;
    • Link child-serving and community agencies to the school and families to support the students academic emotional behavioral and social success;
    • Implement classroom-based programs and presentations;
    • Support district initiatives

    Classroom Consultation
    • Assist administrators and staff to understand the familial cultural and community components of students responses to instruction learning and academic success.
    • Assess student learning needs in collaboration with teachers to develop effective plans that support academic growth.

    Students and Families
    • Assist in providing a comprehensive counseling curriculum for all students in three domains: academic college and career and social emotional.
    • Provide individual support and group counseling
    • Present on topics such as academic needs social/emotional learning and postsecondary planning.
    • Participate in a variety of meetings: Individual Education Program meetings 504 review meetings problem-solving attendance meetings domain meetings parent/student conferences etc.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:
    • Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Possess mathematical and analytical skills appropriate for the position.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit bend write type speak and listen. In addition the employee may occasionally be required to bend twist reach and climb. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close peripheral and distant vision.

    The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet/moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of students.
