Job Description

International School of Brussels (ISB)

The International School of Brussels is seeking a compassionate dedicated and collaborative One-to-One Assistantto support a highly academic high school student with a visual impairment. This role is a key part of ISBs Inclusion and Challenge program and works in close collaboration with the High School faculty and staff.

This position supports a student who due to visual needs requires assistance to fully access academic and social opportunities at school. The One-to-One Assistant ensures the student can engage meaningfully and safely in all learning contexts on and off campus while helping to adapt materials and environments to promote independence and success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and support instructional lessons aligned with the students learning needs.
  • Assist with the adaptation of learning materials and use of accessible resources and technology.
  • Implement safety and mobility plans for activities on and off campus.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Supervise and support the student during transitions breaks and off-campus activities.
  • Participate in meetings supervision duties and professional development activities as required.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues families and other community members both in writing and verbally.
  • Provide academic support outside of class time as needed.

  • Be comfortable navigating and supporting the use of digital tools and assistive technology.
  • Understand the specific needs of students with physical and sensory impairments.
  • Exhibit patience flexibility and creativity in problem-solving and support strategies.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative spirit and willingness to engage as a member of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advocate appropriately for student needs while promoting independence.
  • Maintain clear boundaries and professionalism while building strong respectful relationships with students colleagues and families.
  • Show strong ethics initiative and reliability.
  • Have the physical stamina to remain actively engaged throughout the school day.

Employment Status

The One-to-One Assistant for a Student with Visual Impairment will have an ISB contract. If candidate is not EU member s/he needs to have a valid work permit.
