About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and technically skilled Prototyping & Technical Transfer Engineer to join our Submarine R&D team with a specialized focus on the Flexible Factory Joint (FFJ) a key accessory that connects sections of high-voltage submarine cables.
You will be responsible for developing and industrializing new solutions aimed at improving the performance and manufacturability of FFJs with a particular focus on meeting the increasing demands of higher voltage ratings and deeper sea installations.
All activities will be carried out in close coordination with other R&D functions (such as materials and testing) and will require a broad technical perspective encompassing design materials process development and validation.
The role involves collaboration across multiple departments as well as frequent interactions with external suppliers and Prysmian production sites across different countries.
Main Responsibilities
Design develop and optimize flexible joint solutions for submarine cable systems.
Lead and support the transfer of prototypes and new technologies into manufacturing environments.
Coordinate technical development activities with materials R&D testing labs engineering and production teams.
Prepare and follow up on test plans analyze results and draw conclusions to guide next development steps.
Document technical work clearly and contribute to formal reports and project deliverables.
Drive and support innovation initiatives proposing new ideas and suggesting practical improvements.
Monitor project status identify potential risks and contribute to mitigation strategies.
Interface with external suppliers and partners to align specifications and ensure technical feasibility.
Travel frequently to domestic and international production sites to support prototyping and industrialization phases.
Candidate Profile
Educational Background: Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Professional Experience: Ideally 2 years in R&D or industrial manufacturing preferably in sectors dealing with plastics metals or processing technologies.
Technical Skills: Solid understanding of the mechanical behavior of materials knowledge of electrical phenomena and their impact on materials including thermal dielectric and mechanical stresses.
Tools & Methods: Proficiency with CAD software and experience in preparing technical documentation.
Soft Skills: Ability to work in cross-functional teams while also managing tasks independently. Strong problem-solving skills clear communication and a collaborative mindset.
Languages: Fluent in English and Italian both written and spoken.
Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis.
